Marketing & Communications Manager

Remote Position / Part-time Contractor

The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is seeking a mid-level to a highly experienced individual to serve as a part-time contractor as MEDC’s Marketing & Communications Manager. This role will aid in managing the organization’s message and developing materials to represent MEDC’s services and the City of Marlborough’s offerings to businesses, visitors and residents.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will primarily assist in the sales and marketing of MEDC and the City of Marlborough by helping craft marketing collateral and assisting in facilitating external communications. This individual will perform a variety of ongoing tasks, as well as, creation and development of print and online advertising/media campaigns, email marketing, web site management and content development, press releases, articles/op-eds, photography and videos.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will also provide professional guidance and recommendations while working closely with staff and will report to the Executive Director.

Primary Duties include but are not limited to:

 Communications/Public Relations

·        Manage communication and relationships with media outlets, advertising vendors, graphic designers, web host, etc.;

·        Work with media on sourcing information or interviewees for articles;

·        Write and distribute press releases;

·        Monitor news sources;

·        Write op-eds on behalf of MEDC;

·        Create and distribute monthly e-newsletter and other creative marketing emails as needed;

·        Advise on public relations strategy and statements related to specific events

Website

·        Manage website content/design;

·        Create new web pages;

·        Troubleshoot website issues;

·        On-page SEO optimization

Advertising

·        Manage advertising planning and execution, based on annual budget;

·        Seek out relevant advertising platforms and negotiate advertising rates;

·        Design or work with graphic designer on campaign creatives;

·        Manage social media ads

Social Media

·        Create event listings as needed;

·        Create and execute social media plan for events as needed;

Events

 

·        Design or work with designer to create event collateral as needed;

·        Manage and execute event marketing plans as needed;

·        Attend events as needed

Marketing

·        Design or work with designer to create/update various marketing collateral;

·        Perform basic photography and videography for social posts;

·        Organize, plan, manage and direct professional videography and photography shoots as needed;

·        Manage Benchmark campaigns and contact lists;

·        Manage MEDC business listings (Yelp, Google, Bing, etc.);

·        Source and negotiate with vendors for marketing related projects;

·        Research/brainstorm untapped marketing avenues and advertising opportunities;

·        Compile monthly and quarterly marketing stats;

·        Lead quarterly marketing subcommittee meetings;

·        Design, write and edit MEDC’s Annual Report

Required Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

·        Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or English;

·        A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience;

·        Experience with WordPress, Benchmark Email and social media platforms;

·        Positive, professional and accommodating attitude;

·        Proven ability to socially interact with all levels of people in a variety of roles;

·        Effective written communication skills are imperative; grammar;

·        Must be able to distinguish between critical message points and secondary information;

·        Occasional travel may be required to cover events as needed
