Job Description

Virginia Farm Bureau is seeking an experienced auto adjuster to investigate, negotiate, evaluate and settle auto claims while providing fair, timely, reliable and professional claims service to our policyholders. This position will be responsible for claims handling in the Southern Virginia area (including Isle of Wight, Dinwiddie, and Southampton).

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Prepare repair and total loss appraisals in accordance with company and industry procedures.
  • Re-inspect vehicles during repairs and authorize supplemental repairs and/or payments as needed.
  • Process physical damage payments following the company standard operation procedure.
  • Settle total loss vehicles, move salvage within time limits established for this procedure.
  • Negotiate auto claim losses with insured, claimant and vendors.
  • Assist subrogation and SIU with cases that require physical damage knowledge.
  • Maintain high degree of training (learn new auto repair techniques).
  • All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Manager.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years’ minimum material damage experience

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong MS Office skills and experience working with estimating software
  • Prior field estimating body shop experience
  • Prior automotive experience (repair/mechanical)
  • Proven ability to settle total loss vehicles
  • Strong estimating and negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High level of initiative
  • Professional attitude and appearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior auto claim appraisal or body shop experience
