FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY: Survey residential & commercial locations for new solar installations; measure, record data, take pictures, & evaluate for installation. Survey completed installations for quality and document necessary corrections. Perform service work on existing installation and annual inspections on completed installations. When not performing these tasks, assist with site installations, warehouse needs, material delivery, or other company needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   (Items marked with * are essential job functions)
* Maintain the Simpleray standards of Safety, Quality and Production in that order.
* Travel to locations as assigned throughout service territory to gather data.*
* Measure & document roof size, condition, obstructions and other pertinent information*
* Gather structural information for rafters, prefabricated trusses, metal truss systems and document on provided forms*
* Open & survey necessary electrical equipment to gather necessary information for engineering*
* Use tools to measure voltage & current at location*
* Use drone/UAV to gather aerial photography as necessary for specific locations*
* Coordinate with utility companies for opening large electrical gear as necessary to complete commercial surveys*
* Coordinate with customers and plan schedule to maximize schedule effectiveness/minimize travel time *
* Be available to work in all reasonable weather conditions in all seasons to perform job functions. *
* Provide amazing interpersonal experience for customers while starting their Simpleray experience*
* Perform post installation surveys to document site conditions, both satisfactory and subpar*
* Photograph required items and test required systems and connections*
* Document installation items in need of correction for installations manager*
* Utilize Checklists to ensure all necessary items have been captured during site visits*
* Be a road warrior with overnight travel as required.*
* Install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards, using drawings, schematics, and instructions. *
* Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified.
* Install module array interconnect wiring, implementing measures to disable arrays during installation.
* Identify electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic (PV) installations. *
* Examine designs to determine current requirements for all parts of the photovoltaic (PV) system electrical circuit.*
* Check electrical installation for proper wiring, polarity, grounding, or integrity of terminations.*
* Test operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits for power conditioning equipment, such as inverters and controllers.*
* Identify and resolve any deficiencies in photovoltaic (PV) system installation or materials.*
* Program, adjust, or configure inverters and controls for desired set points and operating modes.*
* Identify installation locations with proper orientation, area, solar access, or structural integrity for photovoltaic (PV) arrays.*
* Perform routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment.*
* Activate photovoltaic (PV) systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectations. *
* Demonstrate system functionality and performance, including start-up, shut-down, normal operation, and emergency or bypass operations. *
* Measure & analyze system performance and operating parameters to assess operating condition of systems or equipment. *
* Compile or maintain records of system operation, performance, and maintenance. 
* Diagram layouts and locations for photovoltaic (PV) arrays and equipment, including existing building or site features.*
* Troubleshoot / determine causes of non-functioning systems. *
* Arrange daily transportation to assigned work locations. *
* Complete job-related paperwork and submit in an orderly timely manner to appropriate individual. *
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work the mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, word processing software, spreadsheet software, and internet software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 – 2 years of education and experience. Solar installation or survey experience highly preferred. 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Valid Driver's License
NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional, Design Specialist, Installer Specialist, or Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist preferred
OSHA – 10 required, OSHA 30 preferred
FAA 107 License required, can obtain within 60 days of hire
