The Product Management Department within Own Brands has an opening for a Portfolio Strategy Manager. This position is located in Pleasanton, California.

 

Position Purpose

Portfolio Strategy Manager will support Own Brands innovation strategy, the management of Own Brands category management, and vendor management to deliver top and bottom line growth. The Manager of Portfolio Strategy will be responsible to achieve Own Brands category sales, profit, and share plans.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspire Innovation creativity to optimize the Own Brands portfolio with identification of trends and platforms, aligned with department strategic initiatives
    • Lead strategic projects and/or innovation platforms with development of business rationale supported by data/analytics
    • Identify and validate consumer, shopper, and market opportunities around "white space" territories, develop size of prize and go to market strategy
    • Stay current on all new category and shopper trends utilizing internal and syndicated data sources
    • Identify and lead big category innovation from idea/concept to shelf
  • New Item Product Management
    • Lead cross functional teams on strategic vision for new products and effectively lead them to commercialize new products or product improvements with excellence including problem solving challenges
    • Support the strategic direction and vision for new products of existing brands
    • Analyze brand, category and competitive trends and dynamics leading to key conclusions, implications, and recommended action plans
    • Ensure on-time delivery of new item, line extension, and innovation projects
    • Effectively lead team to commercialize new products or product improvements with excellence including problem solving challenges and identify technology to deliver new/enhanced benefits
  • Own Brands category sales, profit, and share plans
    • Support the development of the annual financial plan for Own Brands
    • Ensure that Own Brands has the optimal innovation & product assortment and financial dynamics to deliver company objectives
    • Support & help identify key growth opportunities by category, and develop a strategy for growth through disciplined category management
    • Analyze and interpret financial data to accurately plan and forecast the Own Brands business
  • Vendor Management
    • Manage the day to day relationship with vendors and self-manufacturing plants
    • Schedule and prepare leadership top to top with key vendors evaluating key metrics to develop growth plans
    • Support the management of liabilities & accruals with vendors, develop sales driving promotions and plans to invest these dollars in the right divisions and programs to deliver the highest ROI
    • Partner with key vendors to provide key category and shopper insights for the health and growth of top categories
    • Work with vendors to ensure they meet service level performance metrics and influence supplier's manufacturing processes, technology decisions and customer service policies in ways that are mutually beneficial for both organizations

 

Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree in business or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5+ years' experience selling / influencing decision makers
  • 5+ years' experience retail management or brand management
  • Expert knowledge of Own Branded operations and business
  • Proven experience utilizing internal or syndicated financial and consumer insights data to build plans and drive performance metrics
  • Strong personal skills and the ability to build relationships across the business to manage the business
  • Expert organization and project management skills with the ability develop detailed timelines and ensure all milestones are delivered by due dates
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to understand and communicate techniques involved in training, merchandising, and marketing Own Brands items
  • Strong customer service focus and team building skills

 

Travel Requirements: 20%
