Position Summary

The Integrated Disability and Absence Management (IDAM) team is responsible for delivering absence and disability management services to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) employees. The IDAM team manages a comprehensive portfolio of benefits which include Workers' Compensation, leaves of absence, disability/salary continuance, job accommodation, Transitional Return-to-Work, health care, injury prevention, and Fitness for Duty.

Under the limited direction and supervision of the Medical Director, Health Services , the Disability & Absence Management Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day administration and support of the Lab's IDAM programs and benefits. The incumbent supports all statutory leaves of absence (Family Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, Pregnancy Disability Leave), company leave of absence policies, salary continuance plans (Workers' Compensation, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Sick Leave, Vacation and Paid Time-Off) and administers Workers' Compensation, Transitional Return-To Work and Job Accommodation (Americans with Disabilities Act and California's Department Fair Employment & Housing Act) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Administers all new case intake processes and procedures associated with Workers' Compensation, Leave of Absence, Transitional Return to Work and ADA Accommodation Cases.

  • Communicates absence, accommodation and return to work eligibility information, as appropriate, to employees, managers/supervisors, Human Resources, and Health Services.

  • Analyzes employee leave requests and determines leave policy eligibility based on the qualifying life event, employment history, total productive hours worked, collective bargaining agreement, or other leave policy eligibility requirements.

  • Determines certification and notice requirements associated with a leave, accommodation or disability case and provides all required documents, notices and forms to the employee within policy and legally required time frames.

  • Enters all new case information and data into applicable HRIS, Information Systems and databases.

Skills Required

Education & Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a directly related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in Human Resources, Disability Management, Human Resources Compliance or related work experience.
  • Experience interpreting and communicating leave of absence policy provisions
  • Demonstrated through work experience content, knowledge of state and federal disability and leave laws to include: ADA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL and Workers' Compensation
  • Demonstrated through work experience content, knowledge and ability managing cases involving the interactive process (Americans with Disabilities Act and California's Fair Employment & Housing Act) and early Return to Work Programs.
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with a high level of discretion and integrity.
