Job Description

We are seeking an energetic, outgoing and dedicated Lead Prep person for our award winning fast-casual restaurants located in Cambridge!

At Whole Heart, we make food that pleases your body, your conscience, the planet, and most importantly, your taste buds. We believe in making fresh, delicious, and unique plant based cuisine accessible to everyone, vegetarians and carnivores alike. Our flavors are inspired by places from all over the globe - harissa from Africa, szechuan peppercorns from China, zaatar from Israel - just to name a few. The Lead Prep person works in the back of house and will act as an ambassador for the food we are preparing everyday. As a leader, you will be responsible for training and leading others on everything food. You will chop, cook, roast, and sample food youre making daily with your team. You might even contribute to menu ideas or feedback to help improve the quality of food we are serving.

The ideal candidate has a passion for learning and a cheery, positive, and infectious demeanor. We want you to love the food you make and the guests you serve. It is important this person has strong knife skills and is comfortable leading and developing others.

Duties are broad but include:

  • Following recipes accurately and maintaining Whole Hearts food preparation processes and standards
  • Completing hot and cold preparation accurately, neatly and in a timely manner
  • Ability to prepare food throughout the day as needed, anticipating and reacting to guest volume
  • Maintain proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards while preparing and cooking food
  • Be serv safe and allergen certified
  • Educate team about the food we prepare
  • Assist with training and developing prep positions, may supervise others (1-3 employees)
  • Manage inventory and place provision and food orders
  • Keeping everything clean and sparkling
  • Must be able to taste all our food

Requirements

  • Passion for food and people
  • At least 1 year experience working the line or in a prep role in a kitchen or leadership role within the restaurant industry
  • Top-notch customer service/hospitality focus
  • Be able to adapt to changing customer volume levels with a sense of urgency
  • Have the ability to demonstrate a complete understanding of the menu
  • Be able to follow instructions for recipes and sanitation guidelines
  • Have the ability to be cross-trained in all areas of the kitchen and line
  • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work varied schedule, which may include nights or weekends
  • Willingness to learn and take on challenges, work to high standards
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time, and repeated walking, bending, stretching and occasional lifting (up to 50lbs), with or without reasonable accommodation
