Why STC-3? (Renal/Transplant)

Patients accepted on STC-3 are complex with multiple cognitive, emotional and physical needs as they attempt to live with new and acute conditions such as surgery or pneumonia, newly diagnosed or longstanding chronic conditions such as CHF, End Stage Renal Disease with or without dialysis, CF, pulmonary hypertensions and radioactive implant patients among others. All Kidney, Pancreas transplants as well as urological surgery patients reside on this floor. STC-3 is also �back up� for the certified stroke unit, as well as accepting over flow of Med Surg patients from other units.

Skills unique to STC-3:

Special Skills include peritoneal dialysis ( done bedside), Epidural and PCA pain management. CBI, PICC lines, IVADS, Hemodialysis catheter access, NIHSS stroke scale. STC-3 has the only lead lined rooms in the facility, STC-3 nurses are the only Med Surg nurses that access hemodialysis fistulas.

�         Only floor that handles Kidney and Pancreas transplants

�         Called to help ICU with fistulas


Requirements of the Ideal Candidate:

�         Graduate of RN School of Nursing

�         ADN required; BSN preferred

�         Must be licensed to practice professional nursing by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas

�         Minimum 18 Months of RN experience,  Acute Care or Hospital setting preferred

�         Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.

�         Functions competently and effectively under pressure and emergency situations

�  Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Note: If you have less than 6 months of experience, we recommend that you apply to our nursing internship program.  Internships are available for new graduates and experienced nurses in a variety of specialties. New classes begin in January, June, and September.
