This position will develop and manage AP’s concrete work while interacting with internal and external customers.  Collaborate with the field operations team to establish work product, project timelines, and costs resulting in accurate and achievable concrete expectations across all projects in the region.

Key Accountabilities of the role include:

  1. Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
    • Be a champion to support IIF efforts for working safely and building a culture of care and concern within the organization that reinforces the behavioral aspects of working and living safely.
    • Maintain a relationship with safety to hold responsibility for personal safety, the safety of each person in the company, and the IIF performance of the entire workforce.
    • As a leader, consistently communicate and reinforce the tenets of an IIF workplace. Be willing to discuss a personal commitment and desire for all employees to work safely and attain an IIF workplace.
    • As a leader, ensure that processes and procedures that support an IIF culture are maintained and reviewed for continuous improvement.
  2. Develop and manage regional concrete operations.
    • Understand all plans, specifications, and details of the projects.
    • Manage, review, and control all concrete schedules, cost codes, budgets, and production units for projects.
    • Plan and arrange skilled labor to ensure appropriate staffing levels on all assigned job sites.
    • Ensure project quality based on AP’s quality management programs; create site-specific quality control plans; monitor compliance and performance.
    • Troubleshoot jobsite challenges and create innovative solutions; document all corrections, changes, and requests.
    • Provide timely financial and project updates to the regional leadership team.
    • Evaluate project needs; oversee job transition and start-up processes.
    • Oversee\/verify timely and effective closeout of jobs.
    • Implement site-specific safety plans based on AP’s safety program that strives for zero injuries on all projects. Monitor compliance and performance.
  1. Manage the concrete operations group.
    • Lead department team meetings and participate in developing initiatives, goals, objectives, systems, policies, and procedures within concrete operations.
    • Coach, mentor, and train team members. Conduct regular check-ins.
    • Participate in activities to attract, develop, and retain team members. Provide input for staffing decisions.
    • Develop and manage team member performance goals and development plans.
    • Provide leadership for creating and nurturing a collaborative environment and team member engagement.
    • Resolve team member issues.
    • Ensure team members have the necessary resources and support.
  1. Collaborate with pre-construction, business development, and project teams to ensure appropriate financial and staffing estimates, costs, and strategies.
    • Provide guidance, leadership, and coaching on the development and maintenance of concrete schedules utilized during all phases of the project.
    • Facilitate collaborative planning sessions to get input regarding sequencing and durations as it relates to timelines.
    • Advise and provide input into bid schedules, pre-construction planning tools and reports, etc.
    • Advise and support the operations team on effective communication between the owner’s representative, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. Appropriately respond and solve issues before escalation.
    • Work collaboratively to continuously improve the job management process and oversee AP implementation.
    • Supports project management in managing project cash flow, including the timely collection of receivables, retention, and resolution of change orders, claims, etc.
  2. Procure future concrete projects while building client loyalty.
    • Identify target markets and initiatives based on AP’s business strategy.
    • Participate in marketing efforts, presentations, and proposal preparations; help determine sequence activities and activity duration on schedules for proposed projects.
    • Maintain a network of possible and client leads; provide leads for potential projects.
    • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with target clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
    • Participate in at least one external industry organization.
  3. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. History of progressively more leadership experience and proven results including:
    1. Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field and 6+years of experience in estimating, scheduling, production construction management, and\/or concrete. Masters level degree preferred.
    2. Knowledge of foundation\/footer pads\/concrete slabs, forming systems, structural concrete and core jacking systems, and total station required.
    3. Knowledge of site utility installations, overall site grading, and survey stake readings required.
    4. Proficient in reading, interpreting, and executing construction drawings and contract specifications.
    5. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, P6, Procore, and other scheduling, accounting, and bidding software.
  2. Ability to travel to client and project sites as required.
  3. Highly developed skills (listening, influence management, consensus development) paired with outstanding presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences. 
  4. Proven ability to understand pre-project planning activities and disseminate details to teams.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build successful and lasting relationships.
  6. Strong analytical and logic skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of precision on detailed work.
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities; high energy and demonstrated sense of urgency.
