Alfred State announces current vacancies for multiple Area Coordinator (AC) for Residential Life for the fall 2020 academic year.

The Area Coordinator (AC) for Residential Life is a 12-month live-in position that is not eligible for permanent appointment. The Area Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the various programs and services in the Alfred State Residential Community they oversee to develop positive community supporting student success and the mission of the College. Successful candidates must be able to work collaboratively and yet make independent determinations, demonstrate initiative, effectively communicate, and display strong commitment to student learning.

The Area Coordinator (AC) for Residential Life reports directly to the Senior Director for Residential Services and provides supervision for the residential facilities, student and professional staffs in their area. They provide administrative and management oversight of all facets of on-campus student housing and residential curriculum, including operations of the residential facilities in their areas, overall student development and student success, and will serve as part of an after hours emergency on-duty rotation for the department. The Area Coordinator for Residential Life is responsible for the training, supervision, and evaluation of Residence Directors and Resident Assistants in their areas of campus. The Area Coordinator for Residential Life will assist in development and delivery of trainings in all aspects of professional and student staff training including emergency response, conflict resolution, programming, and community facilitation and will lead in the development, delivery and management of the residential curriculum including, living learning communities, residential co-curricular event planning and education, in-service training and student success efforts.

Duties include:

  • Maintaining high visibility and availability in their area, including attending community events, touring their facilities, and interacting with staff and residents in their areas.
  • Direct supervision for student and professional staff in their areas.
  • Direct supervision of residential facilities and indirect supervision of all facilities in their area.
  • Conducting weekly supervision meetings with direct reports and leading staff and area meetings.
  • Ensuring staff members are complying with established policies and procedures and are engaging with their residents to facilitate community standards and student engagement
  • Management and development of training, selection, and recognition for the Residential Services area.
  • Serves as a campus hearing officer
  • Providing appropriate formal and informal feedback regarding job performance for staff in their area.
  • Development of an engaging and success oriented living environment to foster positive community development and belonging.
  • Provide personal, social, academic, and occupational support and referral for residents in their areas.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional professional development activities
  • Serve as member of department leadership team and completes duties and administrative tasks to meet departmental and college strategic goals.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Counseling or another related field required.
  • At least 2 years of experience directly related to higher education, emphasis on residential life or other related support services.
  • Experience with, program development and design, residential curriculum, living learning communities, and student success initiatives.
  • Experience leading professional teams or programs in higher education.
  • Experience with leading selection and training of both professional and student staff.
  • Experience with data management systems.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communicator in both oral and written communication.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
