Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION 

The technical writer would produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of JAVS products. The ideal candidate would work collaboratively with other team members (or as stated in the text specifically “developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts”) to make our products easier to use.  

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.  

  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience. 

  • Create and maintain Software & Hardware Documentation in the form of User Guides, Help Guides, Troubleshooting Guides, Quick Start Guides and Developer Guides.  

  • Standardize content across platforms and media 

  • Select appropriate medium for audience, I.e. written manuals vs video 

  • Create and maintain artwork and diagrams to accompany any documentation 

  • Analyze existing and potential content focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities. 

  • Revise documents as new versions are released 

  • Ensure good communication with superiors, especially regarding significant issues and events. 

  • Maintain a helpful and friendly working relationships. 

  • Frequently check e-mail and voicemail, responding in a timely manner. 

  • Perform any other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 

  • Two-year degree required, but bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred.  Work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements. 
  • Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation. 
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development. 
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). 
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal. 
  • Planning, prioritizing and organizing.   
  • Flexibility and adaptability; displays an ability to assess and solve problems. 
  • Demonstrates the aptitude to independently coordinate activities and prioritize multiple tasks.  
  • Team and customer service orientation. es in co-ordination with other Support Teams. 
  • Strong presentation skills. 
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned. 
  • Clean criminal background.
