The Patuxent River F/A-18 & EA-18G Flight Test Team is recruiting for a Mid-Level Test & Evaluation Engineer. This position would be considered the Lead Flight Test Engineer for the EA-18G Growler, with a focus on Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) testing in Patuxent River, MD.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directing maintenance activity, configuration changes, and modifications on multiple EA-18G flight test aircraft via real-time coordination, documentation, and paperwork as required.
  • Configuration control of multiple EA-18G flight test aircraft, and Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) pods.
  • Acting as Liaison between engineering test team and maintenance personnel to accomplish required maintenance and reconfiguration for each test event. 
  • Supporting pre-flight briefs, and post-flight debriefs.  Briefing test pilots on aircraft configuration, weight & balance, maintenance activity, and changes since last flight at each pre-flight brief
  • Supporting EA-18G / NGJ ground tests and test flights, including real-time monitoring via telemetry, preflight briefs, and post-flight debriefs.
  • Writing flight reports for each test flight supported.
  • Supporting / conducting EA-18G / NGJ ground test events, including Anechoic Chamber testing.
  • Coordinating with test team personnel, project engineers, maintenance, SME's, and US Navy customers.
  • Creating and issuing timely / accurate paperwork to ensure proper / safe test aircraft configuration to support scheduled flight and ground tests.
  • Conducting effective work program meetings to discuss required work on assigned aircraft, modifications, inspections, test schedules, reconfigurations, loadouts, etc.
  • Assisting Test Conductors with preparation for, and conduct of, EA-18G test flights. 
  • Leading /training /mentoring the team of EA-18G Growler / NGJ Flight Test Engineers. 

This position may require occasional travel, short term or long term, to different flight test locations in support of flight test programs.

Variable Shift:

Must be willing to work variable shifts, including weekends and overtime. Some positions may also be rotating shifts

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Top Secret Security Clearance
  • 5 + years of Flight Test experience
  • 5 + years of experience with F/A-18 and/or EA-18G Growler aircraft, and systems
  • Experience with Airborne Electronic Attack (AEA)

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
