Manufacturing Network Engineer
Job Description
The role of the Manufacturing Network Engineer is to help implement, maintain, and support a GxP Manufacturing network.
The successful candidate will join of the Thermo Fisher PSG Manufacturing IT team under the supervision of the Manufacturing Enterprise Manager. This role will work directly with the Enterprise Technology & Operations (ETO) Division to deliver GxP compliant network solutions. Familiarity with ANSI/ISA-95 and Cisco CPwE standards and configuration of segmented Automation networks preferred.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills will be required to manage multiple business critical GxP networks in a global network.
Position Summary
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
- Recommend and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Support integration of segmented manufacturing IT networks into the overall PSG IT landscape.
- Interface with peers in ETO to install technical solutions that are GxP compliant and meet Thermo Fisher Standards including:
- Specialized monitoring, backup solutions, network hardening, etc. specific to a regulated segmented network environment.
- Security standards unique to GxP segmented environments aligned to CIS guidelines
- Administration of network devices that control Global GxP systems as well as related policies and qualification
- Provide monthly reports on global GxP Enterprise network health, vulnerabilities, and lifecycle management
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Expertise with configuration and management of various network equipment
- Regulatory, IT Compliance, Change Management knowledge
- Hi-tech manufacturing knowledge and experience.
- Global cross-cultural experience preferred. Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, crisis management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines in a complex, matrixed environment
- Meticulous attention to detail and a passion for driving execution at a detailed level, while still maintaining the ability to see the big picture
- 5 years enterprise system and network administration experience in regulated environments preferred.
Minimum Requirements/ Qualifications
- Proven hands-on network engineering experience
- CCNP & Fortinet NSE 4 preferred
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- University degree in Computer Science or a related subject
