Department Description: The Gastroenterology/Liver Center is seeking a full time Clinical Nurse II. This position will be working 40 hours per week; day shift.

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse to provide the following support:

Prior authorization/PT-1/disability forms
• With the assistance of administrative assistants, complete the necessary prior authorization forms, PT-1, and disability forms.

3. Vaccinations
• Update and document the hepatitis A & B vaccination status of all patients with chronic liver disease.
• If status unknown, then flag chart for physician so that serologies are checked after visit.
• Administer vaccines when necessary.
• Stock and order supply of vaccines, syringes, needles and alcohol prep pads.

4. Medication Reconciliations
Obtain current medication lists, compare with those ordered for the patient while under the care of the organization and ensure there is communication to the next provider of care and to the patient regarding any changes during the course of care/visit.

5. Code cart
Make up the rotating schedule involving all licensed nursing and PA personnel working in LMOB to check the code cart.

6. Fibroscan
• Responsible for management and coordination of expanding and innovative open access program, which offers testing with a non-invasive ultrasonic device (training provided after hire), both to Liver Center patients and patients outside of the practice

• Provide coordination of care, including delivery of results to ordering physicians and patients and arranging appropriate follow up

• Assisting in the development and expansion of the open access program, including community outreach, database management using Excel for scheduling and follow-up purposes

• Performing test for approximately 50-75 patients/week as well as documentation of results into patient chart under supervision of interpreting physicians

• Oversee 2-3 technicians also performing testing

Job Summary: Utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice as a professional registered nurse and provides direct nursing care to patients and families

  1. Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments.   2. Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care. Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families. Demonstrates the ability to identify resources necessary to implement the plan of care.
  3. Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families. Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect. Communicates effectively in the exchange of information. Demonstrate the ability to act as a patient advocate.
  4. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies. Identifies needs for continued growth and development in conjunction with the unit based educator or clinical nurse specialist. Participates in activities that contribute to professional development of self May participate in quality improvement activities.
  5. Demonstrates a commitment to patients, staff, and to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The individual nursing practice reflects the goals of the Medical Center. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own nursing practice and patient safety
Required Qualifications:
  1. Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
  2. License Registered Nurse required.
  3. 1-3 years related work experience required.
  4. American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate
  5. Must have at least one year OR Nursing experience.
  6. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

  1. Experience in a teaching hospital and specialty area expertise
