About this job

Number of Hours Per Week: 50 plus hour work week, typically 10 hour shifts; must be able to work shift, any day of the week, including Friday, Saturday and Sunday; two (2) days off per week with no guarantee that they will be consecutive. Hours of work, shifts and days worked per week may change periodically due to operational needs.
Qualification Standard:
Demonstrates leadership abilities as evaluated by the Director of Operations. Minimum of two (2) years restaurant management or related experience with an emphasis on building sales, managing inventory, customer relations and/or personnel management. High school diploma or GED is required. College degree in related fields may be considered in lieu of required experience. Certification and completion of Applebee’s Management Training Program(s) and the established Applebee’s Manager-in-Training (MIT) program is required. Must be able to display ongoing proficiency in the use of all restaurant equipment, as well as be able to handle all business/administrative, management, technical and training aspects of both the Front of House and the Back of House.
Essential Functions and Duties:
**Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.
1. Manages Restaurant Environment
a. Ensures prompt, friendly service according to company guidelines.
b. Ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints by self and staff.
c. Ensures guest contact through 100% table visits.
d. Teaches and enforces alcohol awareness. Builds a positive relationship with local authorities by seeking their assistance in alcohol related issues.
e. Maintains adequate inventory levels.
f. Ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meeting company standards.
g. Actively participates in the community to increase sales and enhance the awareness of Applebee’s.
h. Implements and executes all incentive contests and educates associates on promotions and new menu offerings.
i. Effectively oversees/schedules associates to meet sales demands.
j. Maintains effective safety and security programs according to company policy and government standards.
k. Promotes and manages restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation.
l. Institutes preventative maintenance of all equipment and building.
m. Immediately corrects needed repairs.
n. Advises DO of any non-routine situations.
o. Communicates with other managers daily through management log and shift change meetings.

2. Manages Associate Performance
a. Ensures quality recruitment and referrals of potential management candidates.
b. Adheres to and promotes Applebee’s training procedures of new managers.
c. Maintains a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation, individual training sessions, associate meetings and implementation of company policy.
d. Develops an environment of constant development of managers, including monthly reviews as well as written evaluations every six months to update the managers KPI objectives.
e. Assesses the effectiveness of associates, provides candid, fair feedback on a regular basis, and continuously works with associates on their areas of development.
f. Ensures correct staffing levels, utilizing Human Resources’ guidelines for proper selection of associates.
g. Conducts thorough Applebee’s approved interviews.
h. Selects new associates based on competency identification, not need.
i. Demonstrates proper execution of training systems as outlined by the company while emphasizing the importance of training to management and associates.
j. Ensures acceptable associate performance and documents situations that require or could lead to disciplinary or corrective action; institutes progressive discipline when appropriate.
k. Conducts weekly management meetings; conducts employee meetings quarterly.
l. Ensures compliance with company policies, practices and procedures; communicates all changes to all associates.
m. Ensures timely performance one on ones with all associates with written evaluations every six months.
3. Maintain Controls
a. Development Ensures restaurants administrative and accounting duties are promptly and properly completed.
b. Maintains and controls the assets of the company.
c. Assures the compliance with the local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines.
d. Ensures the restaurant is meeting or exceeding operating budgets.
e. Manages all service contracts to ensure that routine and preventative maintenance occurs. Follows through on all work and billing.
f. Monitors and manages capital expenditures within the restaurant.
g. Analyzes systems and procedures with the DO for continual improvement of earning goals.
h. Ensures all cash handling procedures are adhered to.
i. Performs and analyzes weekly food and liquor inventories/costs.
j. Responsible for preparing/overseeing and submitting of accurate daily/weekly/monthly paperwork to the DO.
4. Development
a. Completes all assignments and duties properly and on schedule.
b. Develops goals and action plans for personal/professional growth.
c. Serves as a role model for managers and associates.
d. Is a subject matter expert on all store related technology.
5. All other job duties assigned by the Director of Operations, or a superior member of management, to ensure the effective and orderly operations of the restaurant.
