Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally.  Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital.  We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

This position is within the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) Control organization and will support the development and execution of the business control platform supporting the CIB Coverage industry verticals: Consumer & Retail, Energy & Power, Financial Institutions & Global Corporate Banking, Healthcare, Industrials, and Technology, Media & Telecom. The industry verticals align coverage strategy and capital deployment as the foundation to best serve our customers through core product and service offerings, inclusive of working capital financing, bridge financing, treasury management, foreign exchange and international services, investment banking, market risk management, institutional investments, and corporate trust services. 

As part of the CIB Coverage Business Control Management team, this leader will work directly with industry vertical business leaders to support effective and sustainable delivery of the Risk Management Framework and pro-actively manage and escalate risks within the business.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day coverage contact for one or multiple industry verticals within CIB Coverage
  • Engage in ongoing discussions with business partners on strategy, industry trends, organizational changes, and new/modified markets, systems, products and services, to determine impact and identify risks (across risk types) and remediation opportunities.
  • Collaborate, guide, and counsel business process and control owners on identifying where controls reside, managing control changes and evaluating effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance and support to business partners on implementation of corporate policies and relevant procedural requirements.
  • Help ensure proper LOB profiles of applicable regulations and associated controls as well as residual risks and compensating controls are maintained and continuously updated in appropriate systems of record.
  • Collaborate with the business to ensure execution of risk programs.
  • Maintain awareness of the state of risk across the business and industry, providing risk (all types) subject matter expertise and help the business ensure that issues and risks are pro-actively identified and addressed, escalating where necessary.
  • Build strong working knowledge of Business Process Management, its application within the context of CIB Coverage, and help the business appropriately identify, document and effectively manage and demonstrate high-quality, fact-based risk management.
  • Foster a team-oriented relationship across relationships (business, corporate and wholesale risk/control, audit, regulators, etc.)
  • May manage other team members.  As such, the candidate would be expected to achieve success by leading themselves, their team, and the business.  Specifically, the candidate would lead with integrity and create an environment where team members feel included, valued and supported.  Additionally, the candidate would perform ongoing managerial tasks (sourcing and hiring, coaching and feedback, recognition and development activities, identification and management of risks, etc.)

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.



Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • Ability to concisely articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
  • Highly professional, adaptable and pro-active mindset
  • Demonstrated capability to confidently raise issues, escalate early, and engage in constructive credible challenge independently
