GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and executing a fully-integrated media and communication plan designed to help raise the profile of NewSchool of Architecture & Design (NewSchool). This individual is responsible for strengthening NewSchool’s brand awareness in the marketplace, strengthening and broadening relationships with the media, and elevating NewSchool’s thought-leadership positioning through multiple outreach efforts via traditional, web, and new media channels.

The Public Relations Manager will work in close collaboration with cross-functional partners to manage public relations projects from inception through completion and will also be responsible for understanding key industry and business trends to proactively identify opportunities as a result of those trends. In addition, this individual will be responsible for developing and producing a wide range of communications for internal and external audiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Establish and leverage relationships with members of local and industry specific media to create placement opportunities.
•Identify and engage students, alumni, and faculty to discover unique stories and provide recommendations on ways to leverage these stories in local, national and (where appropriate) international media.
•Compile and update inventory of editorial calendars, surveys, awards and other recognition opportunities and work with faculty and staff to leverage those opportunities via by-line articles, story pitching, and other communications tools.
•Write press releases, facts sheets, web content, and other communications pieces, including media announcements and pitch stories to appropriate media outlets.
•Secure and coordinate interviews with the media
•Manage internal editorial and legal review/clearance process for all media materials, including press releases, by-line articles and media announcements incorporating final drafts that show review and clearance of quotes, fact-checking, and legal compliance.
•Manage content for NewSchool’s website, including calendar listings, news stories, feature stories, and event information; push content to NewSchool’s website and other local and regional listings.
•Use software to create and update media distribution lists, issue press releases, and monitor media coverage.
•Monitor media coverage on a daily basis and create monthly and annual reports for key internal audiences.
•Track daily archive of news and social media coverage of industry relevant topics and competitive intelligence and proactively identify actionable opportunities as a result of this information
•Conceptualize, develop, and execute organic and paid social media campaigns in collaboration with the marketing team
•Manage NewSchool‘s social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter. Social media management includes posting of relevant information, monitoring audiences' interaction, providing activity reports, and identifying opportunities for growth and engagement with our audiences.
•Develop and produce a wide range of communication materials for internal and external audiences
•Serve as the primary NewSchool contact with media representative.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or related field required
•A minimum of 5-7 years of direct related experience in public relations
•Experience leveraging internal and external PR and communication teams and contractors to generate high-value content
•Outstanding writing, editing, and communications skills required
•Proven solid record in drafting communications pieces and pitching and establishing credible and effective relations with media contacts
•Strong project management skills; the ability to see projects through from concept through delivery.
•High level of professionalism and discretion
•Possess strong abilities in the areas of executing communication strategies and tactics
•Experience working with internet media, social networking, and viral media outlets including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and blogs for marketing and communications purposes
•Strong relationship building skills
•Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
•Experience working in higher education is preferred
