JOB DESCRIPTION: The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Security Officer will perform security rounds, responsible to the Government for the protection and physical security of the property, material and equipment on board the vessels to which assigned.
• Security Officer shall pass along any special instructions to the relief Security Officer and annotate the time on the log at the conclusion of his/her watch.

• Watch for irregular or suspicious conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards, walk the length of the pier, checking for leaking hoses and/or loose mooring lines.
• Monitor the ship's gangway and inform the OOD of potential fouling, connection problems, problems associated with the tide, or any other condition that could affect safely crossing between the ship and pier.

• Advise all unauthorized, private vessels to stay clear of the dock and to stay clear of the ship itself.
•Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles.
• While rounds are not being made, the Security Officer's primary duties shall be to monitor and control access to and egress from the vessel. The Security Officer will man the ship in a location that best provides a view of the gangway and the adjacent shore side area of responsibility.

• The actual Security Officer's location will be assigned by the Ship's Command.
• Will ensure only ship personnel are allowed access to the ships. All ship personnel will carry a US Government Identification card.
• Security Officer should take all precautions, within their authority, to prevent theft of government property anywhere on government owned or government leased space, including docks, ships and storage containers. All suspicious activity shall be documented and immediately brought to the attention of the OOD.
• Shall maintain a legible, handwritten log of significant events happening during each watch, such as completion of security rounds, arrival and departure of visitors, arrival and departure of contractors, any unusual incidents, etc.

• Shall lower the National Ensign and Jack on assigned ships at sunset every day. The Guard will also raise the National Ensign and Jack on both ships at 0800 on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.

• Must take all precautions, within their authority, to prevent theft of government property anywhere on government owned or government leased space, including docks, ships and storage containers. All suspicious activity shall be documented and immediately brought to the attention of the OOD.

•Smoking is not permitted in any interior of vessel space. Alcohol is not permitted aboard any vessel. Any violation of these policies shall be reported to the OOD or Ship’s Command.

• Security Officer may be assigned additional duties under special circumstances, i.e., prevent looting during the aftermath from severe weather conditions; check additional equipment stored on ship for a temporary period, etc.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS: You must possess ALL the following:

• Must possess a valid Security License
• Must have a Driver’s License and reliable transportation
• Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to legally work in the United States
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must have a H.S. Diploma/GED
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in physical security or service in the U.S. Armed Services
• Must be able to pass a 5 dot panel drug test
• Must be able to pass a “Federal” background check
• Must be able to maintain a required Security Licensed during employment
• Must possess a First Aid Card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: You must have the physical ability to perform the job

• Occasionally bend/ twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
• Good general health and physical fitness including ability to climb ladders, negotiate narrow passageways, and transit other areas of the ship as required for security rounds
• The ability to work in extreme weather like rain, snow, and extreme heat or cold
• The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
• Must possess good vision 20/20 (with glasses), depth perception, distinguish basic colors
• Good hearing, within normal speech range and volume
• Unimpaired use of hands, arms, legs, feet and the ability to run, lift and climb stairs
