Medical Assistant Role Purpose:

 

The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting.  The Medical Assistant is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties.  Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee.  Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records and filling out insurance forms/paperwork.

 

Certified Medical Assistant/Registered Medical Assistant Role Purpose:

 

The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting.  The CMA/RMA is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties.  Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee.  The CMA/RMA may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.  Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records and filling out insurance forms/paperwork. 

 

LPN Role Purpose:

 

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing patient care in an ambulatory setting.  The LPN duties may include:  taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination procedure, sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications and screening telephone calls related to patient care using set protocols and standing orders as resources and consulting with a RN or medical provider for situations outside of established protocols.  The LPN may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.

 

Paramedic Role Purpose:

 

The Paramedic is responsible for performing procedures, administering medications, and assisting the physician with total patient care in an ambulatory setting within the scope of the paramedic’s practice.   The Paramedic duties may include:  taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination procedure, sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications and screening telephone calls related to patient care using set protocols and standing orders as resources and consulting with a RN or medical provider for situations outside of established protocols.  The Paramedic may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.

 

Dean Clinic offers a one time sign on bonus of $2500.00 to part time and full time Medical Assistant, LPN and Paramedic new hires.

 

Responsibilities:

 

1. Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming standards.

2. Assists medical providers and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients; assists with patient flow in department.

3. Demonstrates and understands sterile and aseptic techniques.  Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure.

4. Completes Laboratory and Medical Imaging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.

5. Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results.

6. Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records.

7. Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion.  Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.

8. Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.

9. Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures.

10. Provides patient education only under the direction of medical provider or nurse.

11. Performs delegated MD/Nursing acts commensurate with education, training, competency and experience.

12. Depending upon location and/or department may be responsible for performing the following responsibilities:

a. Basic computer scheduling, rescheduling, canceling and coordination of appointments.

b. Auditing of charge tickets for 24 hour turnover and manages nursing work ques by providing procedure and diagnosis codes.

c. May act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.  This will include:  documenting history and exam, entering diagnoses, orders (medications, labs, imaging, consults, etc.), diagnoses, E&M, follow up and patient instructions.  The CMA/RMA will then review instructions and goals and print the visit summary for the patient.  

13. Assists in emergency situations.

14. Cross train and staff other departments as needed.

15. Participates in site process improvement teams.

16. Performs other duties as required.

Medical Assistant Required:

 

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting.

3. Must receive credential as a Medical Assistant within one year of start date.   Acceptable credential includes Registered Medical Assistant (RMA, through the AMT organization only) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).   

4. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

5. Pleasant, outgoing personality.

6. Good communication and organization skills.

 

Preferred:

 

1. Previous healthcare experience.

 

Certified Medical Assistant/Registered Medical Assistant Required:

 

1. High school graduate or equivalent with graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting and Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant OR direct, hands on patient care experience with Dean as a Medical Assistant or Patient Care Assistant with current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant OR 5 years of direct, hands on patient care experience directly related to this position outside of our organization may be considered with current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant.  Acceptable credential includes Registered Medical Assistant (RMA, through the AMT organization only) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Other medical assistant credentials may be considered with approval from Clinical Staff Services and Human Resources.    

2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

3. Pleasant, outgoing personality.

4. Good communication and organization skills.

 

Preferred:

 

1. Experience working in a healthcare setting.

 

LPN Required:

 

1. State Licensure or eligible for State Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

4. Good communication and organizational skills

 

Preferred:

 

1. Experience with an electronic medical record (i.e., Epic)

2. Relevant clinical experience.

 

Paramedic Required:

 

1. State licensure as a Paramedic.

2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

7. Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with blood borne pathogens or other chemicals.

8. Depending on location assigned, may need to be able to safely drive a person vehicle on a weekly or daily basis.

9. Ability to wear a respirator/mask.
