ROLE SUMMARY

The Gelfoam Packaging Technician Assistant serves as the technical SME on all Gelfoam lines. The Packaging Tech Assistant also oversees all Operator Care activities and changeovers on both automated and semi-automated lines. The Packaging Tech Assistant may work on special projects and assist engineering and maintenance with trouble shooting, validation, preventive maintenance, and other miscellaneous support. The Packaging Tech Assistant will also run lines and be expected to know duties and responsibilities of Line Coordinator and Material Handler positions. The Packaging Tech Assistant may also be required to learn operator/inspector activities if qualified.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Packaging Technician Assistant will be required to set-up, operate, change-over, maintain, and basic troubleshoot Inspection equipment used in Gelfoam. The technician will monitor, evaluate and adjust processes or equipment to maximize quality and efficiency, and make some minor repairs as required. The technician will be responsible for completion of batch records, associated documentation PEPs and SAP entries. The technician will be responsible for helping to train other PT's, LC's and Operators/Inspectors. Additional responsibilities may include running the lines, coordinate startups and clearances. The technician will coordinate with maintenance to complete repairs and develop solutions to mechanical hindrances. The Packaging Tech Assistant will provide support to the Production Specialist, Leads and Plant Professionals for new equipment, and upgrades to existing equipment. The technician will need to effectively communicate with other line colleagues and support personnel. The Packaging Tech Assistant will ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with applicable safety guidelines, as well as appropriate processing standards, SOP's such as FDA's current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma / general education degree (GED).
  • Experience: 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training.
  • Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: Powered Industrial Vehicle (Low Lift / Motorized Hand Lift).
  • Language Skills: Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate percentages as well as multiplication and division.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze and troubleshoot automated equipment and processes.
  • Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, lifting, and twisting as well as standing for extended periods of time.
  • Work Environment: Colleague is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The light level in the work environment is lowered to accommodate inspection processes. Use eye protection is required.

Math and reading skills required for SOP, GMP and Batch Record comprehension. Ability to contribute to department success in a team environment and perform tasks at a productive level under demanding conditions is mandatory. Must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing responsibilities. Requires a demonstrated ability to self-direct daily activities to meet production schedule.
