Providence is calling a Cook (Dietary, Variable Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

This is an on call position that will cover call outs and vacations for caregivers.

In this position you will:

• Be responsible for the preparation of food for residents, patients, staff and special events.
• Set up dining areas; wash and sanitize dishes.
• Prepare, deliver and serve food to patients, residents and other customers while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
• Assure that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis and that the Dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
• Follow the menu for the patients and residents according to customer needs and satisfaction to be in compliance with nutritional guidelines.

Required qualifications for this position include:

• High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
• Ability to read, write and speak English

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

• Certification in Food Safety and Sanitation
• Specific vocational training in food or nutritional training; training can be provided in a school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment.
• 6 months training or on the job training in quantity food preparation in cooking, estimating food needed, requisitioning and storing food and supplies, basic principles of dietetics and principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in food handling.

About the Providence Valdez Medical Center

Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE's). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for "swing bed" status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
