JOB SUMMARY:

Supervise all functions within Referral Testing department. Responsible for overseeing the following activities: daily operations of Referral Testing, compliance training, personnel and competency, monitoring quality, productivity and functions related to customer satisfaction. Ensure maintenance of a safe, ergonomically sound, professional environment. Must know and understand all functions of the Referral Testing Department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responsible for daily operations of department.

  • Oversee safety, ergonomics, maintenance, and cleanliness of department (including upgrades, repairs, etc).

  • Implement national and local SOPs for Referral Testing in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines.

  • Where applicable, ensures all Federal, State & local licensure requirements are met and documented, working with the QA and Medical Director's offices.

  • Ensures all Laboratory QA/QC documentation is complete and reviewed as required.

  • Ensures integrity of specimens sent to other facilities meet the criteria necessary to provide accurate and timely results.

  • Monitor Non-Quest referrals for internalization opportunities.

  • Ensures all pending and overdue lists are resolved in timely manner.

  • Supervise packing and shipping of specimens to other laboratories.

  • Ensure compliance with all Haz Mat regulations as described in Hazmat Procedure Manual.

  • Reviews Referral Testing Standard Operating Procedure Manual on an annual basis and ensures departmental compliance. Identifies need for revisions and/or additional SOP's as indicated.

  • Monitor the quality of manual resulting.

  • Ensure all employees meet Compliance Guidelines and Competency Testing.

  • Monitor special handling of Jeopardized Clients, Hospital Clients and Vital Specimens to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Must be able to establish and motivate a participative work environment.

  • Hold regularly scheduled meetings for dissemination of all information to staff.

  • Track/enter time/attendance of employees.

  • Prepare month-end reports.

  • Investigates/resolves and responds to internal and external customer issues effectively in a timely manner.

  • Oversees departmental scheduling in an effort to maximize coverage and minimize overtime.

  • Oversees inventory process for department.

  • Oversees implementation of improvement and/or standardization initiatives.

  • Participate in the interview, selection and hiring of new employees.

  • Supervises training and development of Referral testing staff.

  • Perform mid year/annual performance appraisals and corrective action and counseling as required. 26. Assists manager in preparation of annual budget for areas of responsibility.

  • Supervises departmental efficiency to assure fiscal responsibilities are met.

  • Participate on Six Sigma projects and Process Improvement Teams, or other initiatives to meet management objectives.

  • Organize and lead projects both within the work group and with cross-functional groups. May be required to give presentations and speak in groups.

  • Effectively work with other Quest Facilties and Vendors to resolve issues.

  • Interfaces with local and national database resources to define requirements to support referral testing needs.

  • Writes and or updates department Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Monitors and posts Referral Vendor Metrics.

  • All other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Assesses staffing requirements on a daily basis, adjusts to meet department needs.

  • Additionally, demonstrates ability to complete assignments as requested by the manager.

Incumbent should possess the knowledge, skills and experience usually obtained by:

  • AA degree with minimum of 5 years laboratory experience.

  • Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.

  • Thorough knowledge of all Client Service, Specimen Processing and Referral Testing department policies.

  • Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications.
