 Job Descriptions: Lumberyard Associate

Position Summary 
Under the Supervision of Management, responsible for providing excellent customer service, general lumber yard duties, including packaging and operating equipment; moving freight to designated warehouse areas; assist with receiving and unloading of container shipments and deliveries; dispensing propane and operation of forklift and other types of equipment; tools, equipment, and vehicle maintenance. Lumberyard inventory and procedures are also the responsibility of the lumber yard associate. Position reports to members of management. 

Major Responsibilities 
The major responsibilities for this position include: 
•	Ensure each customer receives outstanding service which follows the S.A.L.E.S process and by mystery shop standards 
•	Check all received freight for damage and count according to company procedures; report damages, shortages, overages, and other discrepancies on the out-going manifest to the Backroom Coordinator and Store Manager. 
•	Unload containers, identify and mark cargo for proper store delivery. 
•	Off load pallets, properly securing freight, move to appropriate designated areas of the lumber yard/ store, operating forklift as required. 
•	Prepare equipment and vehicles for use; includes regularly checking of operating equipment and vehicles to ensure operating condition and performing routine inspection of mechanical equipment. 
•	Adhere to strict rules, guidelines, policies and procedures on safety. 
•	Load freight onto trucks according to proper policies and procedures. 
•	Performs general building maintenance. 
•	Performs general housekeeping duties in the lumberyard and surrounding premises. 
•	Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management.
•	Uphold merchandising and lumberyard cleanliness standards. 
•	Conscious of shoplifting activity 
•	Answer customers’ questions and provide information on procedures and policies 
•	Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements. 
•	Actively participate in daily huddle meetings 

Minimum Requirements
•	High school degree or equivalent.
•	Posses a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn. 
•	Basic reading, writing, math and problem solving skills. 
•	Operation of forklift, bobcat, hand truck, pallet jack, table saw, chop saw, panel saw, pipe machine, rebar cutter is a plus. 
•	Excellent customer service. 
•	Previous experience in a construction environment and/or warehouse conditions. 
•	Operation of vehicles, ability to follow instructions and safety procedures, including safety rules. 
•	Solid team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
•	Attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. 
•	Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements
•	Frequently bending, lifting, reaching squatting, climbing, push/pull 50 – 100 pounds, twist and rotate upper body, lift and carry 60 pounds and occasionally lift over 80 pounds or more. 
•	Must be able to work in outdoor conditions (including in the sun and under extreme hot weather). 
•	Must wear steel toe shoes and other safety equipment required.
