POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Lead Program Director, the Trout Lodge Program Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of Trout Lodge Programs to guests of the YMCA of the Ozarks Trout Lodge while exemplifying the Y values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1) Facilitates Trout Lodge Programs at Trout Lodge, and occasionally teambuilding programs for the Leadership Department.

2) Works with the marketing department to ensure that all flyers that are visible to guests are up to the standards of all YMCA of the Ozarks marketing.

3) Assists with theme weekends at Trout Lodge.

4) Assists with the planning and facilitation of all community including but not limited to the Community Valentine’s Dinner, Spring & Fall Soccer, Halloween night, Senior Dinner as assigned.

5) Delivers evening programs at Trout Lodge.

6) Develops lesson plans for Trout Lodge programs.

7) Follows staff policies and procedures.

8) Enhances overall service given to all Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood guests.

9) Maintains positive working relationships with support services departments including group sales, Triangle Y Ranch, maintenance, food service, and housekeeping to provide for the comfort and safety of Trout Lodge guests.

10) Provides the maintenance department with timely information pertaining to the upkeep, maintenance and operation of assigned program areas and related equipment.

11) Reports damaged or lost program equipment in an appropriate and timely manner.

12) Responsible for van maintenance and upkeep of all YMCA vehicles when in use.

13) Participates in the implementation of YMCA management systems as they apply to World Service Drives, United Way Drives, Capital and Partner Campaigns.

14) Supports marketing efforts in cooperation with the Director of Marketing to promote program participation and the use of the YMCA of the Ozarks by new conference, day and specialty groups.

15) Attends and contributes to weekly program meetings.

16) Participates in continuing training programs when offered and consistently works to add new and exciting programming to the Trout Lodge Program Department.

Performs other job related tasks as assigned.

Programs specialists will work closely with children and families leading activities in areas such as archery, riflery, arts and crafts, geocaching, rocket building, nature hikes, cave excursions, pontoon tours, basketball, volleyball, face painting and much more. They will also lead campfires and special evening programs. Program specialists will not live with campers.

Position requires strong skills in: time management, human relations and customer service. Must be computer literate and possess a positive, can do attitude with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Requires good judgment, management and organizational skills. Candidate must know how to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, create programs and problem solve.

Rate:
$50/day + Meals & Housing

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Requires High School diploma, some college preferred.

Experience/Skills: Previous experience in camp, resort or outdoor skills programming preferred.

Licenses, Certifications or Special Skills: Requires Class E driver license & clear driving record. CPR and First Aid required or may be obtained during training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Physical Mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time.
  2. Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment, exercise equipment, office equipment (fax, copier, stapler, etc.), tools and machinery as needed.
  3. Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  4. Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors.
  5. Ability to drive vehicles (golf carts, car, van and/or bus)
  6. Ability to maintain alertness for several hours at a time.
  7. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  8. Ability to tolerate extreme temperature conditions (heat and/or cold)
  9. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
