JOB SUMMARY
 

The Director, Planning & Services – Strategic Planning & Special Consulting Initiatives is a key member of the BMSC Americas Planning + Services organization that provides business consultancy and analytic services, reporting to the Senior Director, – Strategic Planning & Special Consulting Initiatives. This position is accountable for leading strategic planning of enterprise-wide initiatives across the Continent in the BMSC scope. This position will work with the P+S leadership team in engaging BMSC Americas leaders to identify and plan brand, marketing, sales, eCommerce, and revenue management initiatives that will enable successful delivery against the strategic priorities of Marriott International. Success in this role requires strong strategic thinking and change management skills, a proven ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, as well as a willingness to be tested on difficult projects and initiatives and the utilization of data metrics to develop analytical insights to drive high impact focus areas in the continent.

The individual will focus primarily on projects in the following areas:

  • Strategic Planning: Designing, developing, facilitating, and leading the execution of enterprise strategic planning efforts (e.g. MBOs, 3-year strategic planning, investment planning, innovation scanning, regional collaboration planning, etc.)
  • Capability Development: Assess and develop new capabilities (e.g. training, tools, templates, approaches, etc.) within the broader BMSC Americas and Planning + Services teams, including change management, recognition, etc., that support the organization in meeting critical business needs 
  • Program Design: Conduct and use analysis to develop leading recognition and other enterprise programs and initiatives that are human-centered, data-driven, and results-focused
  • Research Development + Point-of-View Creation: In response to critical topics identified by the CSMO or Vice President, Planning + Services, the team will conduct quantitative, qualitative and/or applied research to inform enterprise decision-making on critical business challenges and opportunities
 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 
Education and Experience Required
 
  • 4-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance
OR
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance
 

Attributes Skills & Experience Preferred

  • Prior experience leading the planning and execution of strategic projects and initiatives in the Sales, Rev. Mgt., Marketing & Digital area.
  • Design Thinking: Strong at analysis, creative brainstorming, design, end-user/customer segmentation and mapping in order to manage solution-focused problem solving to critical enterprise challenges.
  • Advanced Facilitation Skills: Manage the design, development, and delivery of complex stakeholder experiences, using design thinking, creativity, and expert communication skills, to deliver powerful, results-oriented meetings and workshops.
  • Change and Ambiguity: Able to guide the organization and team in working through unclear situations, challenges and opportunities through strong situation analysis and framing, rapid stakeholder assessments, critical decision making, solution brainstorming, and making data-driven way forward recommendations.
 
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
 

Project Leadership

Leads cross-functional working teams comprised of senior discipline experts from Human Resources, Finance, other departments within BMSC Planning & Services, and BMSC Americas to:

  • Lead strategy planning of project scope, to include change management tools and resources provided to customers
  • Adapt and influences to drive deliverables that minimize employee resistance and maximize employee engagement to drive faster adoption, and higher proficiency on the changes impacting associates in the organization and ensure consistent market implementation
  • Engages with larger P+S team to synchronize projects working across functions and disciplines, and to evaluate validity across planning cycle
  • Plan BMSC Americas initiatives with minimal oversight, working with BMSC Americas leaders to meet project objectives and goals on time and on budget.
  • Support enterprise-wide BMSC projects in scope working across functions and disciplines to meet objectives.
  • Identify and develop needs and resources/tools to support initiatives. Proactively assesses to support strategic decision making using the appropriate approaches, systems
  • Deliver presentations related to roadmap development, project execution and management to senior management and other key stakeholders (e.g., owners, associates, customers).
  • Actively engage internal partners (e.g. change management and communications, human resources, OFS) to prepare content for communication materials as needed for deployment of BMSC Americas initiatives. 
  • Drives approaches that result in identifying the highest opportunity (markets/scope, etc.) areas for action.
 

Strategic Planning and Execution

Leads initiatives in partnership with the BMSC Americas Leadership team and team to drive change across the BMSC Americas organization.  Acts as a project leader and day-to-day project decision maker with the following responsibilities:

  • Assess and design organizational and operational capability gaps within and across disciplines and determine way forward recommendations for Planning + Services leadership.
  • Accountable for delivering the results of specific projects and strategic tasks.
  • Provide content guidance to the project.
  • Participate in review cycles at key milestones & provide go/no-go decision.
  • Define level of resources needed for new implementations.
  • Deliver communications tailored to the unique opportunity areas for individual priorities, highlighting top opportunity areas, and driving for agreement on next steps and measurement.
  • Assume the role of team point of contact for partner areas including but not limited to, Business Analysis, Systems Support, Legal, etc.
  • Determine the need and effectiveness of training, adoption and resources for successful implementation.
