About this job

The Theater Operations Specialist will monitor sound and image quality throughout the run of a film and work collaboratively with other IMAX staff to maintain the highest quality of performance in The Tech's Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater.  This position is also responsible for operating the concession stand and assisting guests entering the theater including collecting tickets.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the IMAX team to present the best possible presentation.

  • Monitor and maintain show quality.

  • Explain the ideas and concepts of IMAX technology to museum guests in an infectious and enthusiastic fashion.

  • Competently and efficiently operate the theater Media Control system in all situations.

  • In the event of an emergency, assist with all necessary crisis management.

  • Assist guests entering the theater by collecting admission tickets and passes, assisting in finding seats, organizing large school groups, and locating such facilities as rest rooms and telephones.

  • Responsible for operation of theater concessions stand including but not limited to: make popcorn and assure adequate stock of fresh product, sales of food and drink products, accurate cash handling, and exceptional customer service

  • Stock product to sufficient levels prior to opening or after closing, and maintain a sanitary work environment by cleaning stand area regularly including food product stations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications 

  • High school diploma.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to speak in front of crowds.

  • A strong commitment to providing quality IMAX presentations for museum's guests.

  • A strong interest in learning about technology and conveying what you have learned to others.

  • Computer literate; knowledge of Windows Operating System required and troubleshooting skills desirable

  • IMAX or conventional theater experience helpful.

  • Flexible availability including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.

  • Punctual, reliable and flexible to the museum's and guests' needs.

  • Ability to safely climb stairs multiple times a day, the ability to see at various distances, hear and interpret noise and sounds, work in varying lighting conditions, including darkened spaces.

  • Demonstrate manual dexterity, including bending over to pick up debris and locate lost items.

  • Ability to meet museum grooming standards.
