Job Summary
 

The Senior Manager will report to the Senior Director, Financial Reporting and Analysis and be an integral member of the Marriott Financial Reporting and Analysis team.  The Senior Manager will run the day to day P&L financial reporting and analysis functions ensuring accurate reporting for both actual operating results and planning cycles for NALO. He/She will engage with multiple stakeholders including Americas finance and regional teams, hotel Directors of Finance, various Corporate Finance departments, Hotel Support Services team, and other internal and external stakeholders.

 

The Senior Manager must be adept at tapping diverse sources of information, identifying opportunities and process improvements, anticipating challenges, and devising and executing strategies to deliver excellence in Financial Reporting and Analysis at Marriott International. He/she will manage a team of two motivated associates and have a wide range of responsibilities supporting several key systems, reporting & accounting functions and analytical activities.

 
 
SCOPE/BUSINESS CONTEXT/EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
 
  • Review, report and analyze the monthly and quarterly reporting of operating results and forecast for managed and franchised. Provide pro-active interpretation of financial results and outline recommendations for follow-up actions, as appropriate. 
  • Prepare analytical schedules for the segment including financial and statistical analysis to ensure that financial results are properly stated, and unusual activity and variances are fully explained. Complete comparisons to prior forecast, prior guidance, budget and prior year for each month, quarter and year to date. 
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks based on knowledge of the NALO reporting segments and brands and financial reporting experience.  Ensure that all reports are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Coordinate and manage the annual business plan and budget process.  Calculate, record and analyze the franchise budget using revenue management projections. Consolidate and analyze managed fees, owned and leased results, G&A expenses, and other financial statement lines.  Develop reports and analytics ensuring that key variances are reasonable based on underlying business drivers and unusual activity is explained.  
  • Act as a contact for the company’s annual audit related to P&L activity for the NALO reporting segments. Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor questions and resolve issues and ad hoc requests.
  • Serve as a liaison and point of contact for systems and reporting maintenance for NALO brands and reporting segments.  Provide support to America’s regional and hotel finance teams by maintaining system journal entry rules, facilitating requests to record one time or unusual activity, closed hotel resolution, preopening setup and allocations, and answering other ad hoc requests received from various finance teams and Accenture Hospitality Services.
  • Work collaboratively with the other departments to identify and implement financial reporting process improvements across the NALO reporting segments.  Identify common problem areas and implement solutions.
  • Manage, motivate, develop, and train associates. Set goals and expectations for direct reports and hold staff accountable for successful performance.  Coach team by providing specific feedback to improve performance.   Conduct annual performance appraisal with direct reports.
  • Design, develop, and produce programmatic and ad hoc reports that enable the appropriate focus on business issues and the optimization of business performance.
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to fully leverage our systems including EPM, Hyperion Essbase, and Hyperion Financial Management.
  • Contribute to the development of governance policies and processes that facilitate accurate and consistent financial reporting and a strong internal system control environment for all brands.
  • Complete special reporting and analytical projects as assigned by the Senior Director, or other members of the Financial Reporting & Analysis leadership team.
 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Experience
  • Eight plus years of progressive job experience in accounting/finance field. 
  • Experience in Marriott Lodging or other MI business preferred.
  • Strong systems skills including Excel and experience with Hyperion financial applications. Must be comfortable analyzing and summarizing large volumes of data. 
 

Educational Requirements

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or MBA Preferred.
