Mt. Brighton is currently seeking Alpine Ski Instructors of all experience and PSIA certification levels!

 

What you will do:

  • Build strong guest relations and utilize communication skills to facilitate learning and repeat visits.
  • Understand, lead and model safety standards within the department for yourself, guests and others; contribute to our culture of Health and Safety.
  • When working with children, supervise children at all times ensuring return of child to identified guardian.
  • Model and demonstrate knowledge about our resort and department product lines, company policies and procedures, dress code and work schedules.

     

Job Summaries:

The Non-Certified Ski Instructor is a novice ski instructor, typically with little or no previous experience. At this level, instructors are actively engaged in attaining teaching skills and learning the responsibilities of a fully competent instructor.  The Entry Instructor is proficient in skiing and/or riding in a variety of terrains.  Working under the guidance of more experienced instructors, this instructor typically instructs entry level skiers and snowboarders and teaches less difficult/challenging classes or individuals.

 

The Cert 1 Ski Instructor is typically at the entry point for an intermediate level ski instructing with some experience who has earned PSIA certification level 1 or equivalent. At this level, instructors are familiar with the concepts of Guest Centered Teaching and the American Teaching System, which ensures that certified ski schools at any location teach with the same consistent, customer-centric approach. Working under the guidance of more experienced instructors, this instructor is learning to successfully instruct more challenging individuals/classes in more difficult terrain.

 

The Cert 2 Ski Instructor is a fully proficient, experienced ski instructor with several years of experience who has earned PSIA certification level 2 or equivalent.  This instructor is qualified to teach a wide range of ski school guests, including instruction in how to safely ski more challenging runs under variable conditions. In addition to teaching proper skiing techniques, the instructor assist guests on choosing the most appropriate skiing equipment and other aspects of the total skier experience. The Instructor enhances guest experience through application of teaching and communication skills.

 

The Cert 3 Ski Instructor is a ski instructor with the highest level of expertise and professionalism, extensive experience, and a PSIA certification level 3 or equivalent. Recognized as expert/master in the field, this level is typically assigned to the most challenging and/or highest profile guests. Often, instructs guests with advanced skills or who require specialized knowledge and methods. During instruction, demonstrates how to safely ski challenging runs under the most difficult conditions.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age – Required
  • Minimum availability of 3 shifts/week, with a minimum of 1 mandatory “hot shift” (to be defined upon hire)
  • Excellent communication and guest service skills
  • Ability to perform in a high paced, variable, multi-faceted environment with the ability to multi-task and work on a team
  • Previous experience in teaching/coaching/mentoring (children if applicable)
  • Familiar with proper techniques regarding the lifting and handling of children
  • Able to withstand lengthy exposure to cold and inclement weather
  • Physical strength and ability to: respond appropriately to emergency and other unplanned situations; stand for long periods of time; kneel, stoop, bend frequently; lift 50 lbs.
