The Maintenance Building and Utilities Handyperson is an hourly position in our Maintenance department. This position ensures proper maintenance and operational status of equipment associated with the Bakery. Affected equipment includes building structures, manufacturing equipment, and support systems utilized by the plant. 
 
Here’s what you will get to do:
  • Set-up: bakery machinery and equipment according to the bakery schedule.
  • Monitor: assigned line and troubleshoot bakery equipment, conveyors, lifts, switches, electric eyes, rails, grids motors, etc. and notify the appropriate company personnel as required.
  • Prepare: plans to correct the problem, consulting with co-workers or the supervisor when necessary.
  • Replace, Repair, Adjust and Modify: electrical, mechanical or hydraulic, pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Perform: basic welding and machining tasks, as well as, read blueprints, drawings and plans.
  • Assist: operators with line changeovers as needed.  
  • Assist: specialists with the repair, maintenance, rebuilding and installation of equipment and machinery in the facility.
  • Assist: all trades with repairs, replacements, adjustments, modifications to equipment, machinery, wiring, piping etc. as directed.
  • Order: parts and supplies for repairs and maintain parts inventory as needed.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance of all facility and grounds equipment.
  • Maintain all facility, grounds and utility equipment.
  • Maintain and overhaul plant production equipment as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on all plant equipment and utility equipment.
  • Research parts needed for work/repairs and properly utilize the Parts Inventory and Work Order systems.
  • Cover areas of the plant as assigned by the Department Manager.
  • Complete project work as needed or required.
  • Understand and follow all Plant and Department Safety rules and programs.
  • Enforce safety regulations.
  • Lead by example in a positive and collaborative manner. 
  • Help team members to excel in their assigned tasks.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability read, write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to speak and understand some Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to be a team player and work well with technicians/operators within their department and with other departments. 

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum two-years experience in industrial maintenance or related field with solid skills in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  • Available to work overtime (end of shift and weekends).
  • Candidate should be teamwork oriented with good communication skills.
