C-Store Management Trainees are new hires to Wallis Companies, and train with a C-Store manager and are responsible for learning how to run an efficient and profitable operation of a single unit location and P&L. Assist the Manager in the daily operation of the store, development of all employees within the store and ensure the best customer service standards are in place.
Management Trainees work an average of 50+ hours per week.
Promotion to C-Store Manager, or Assistant Manager, is based on performance, and position availability. Trainees are required to be open to working at several store locations across the greater St. Louis area (and/or surrounding rural markets). This may include all Wallis Brands: On the Run, Dirt Cheap, and U-Gas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager in examining the marketplace for changes that may affect the business
Direct the shift to ensure maximum productivity of every staff member, including self
Accept responsibility for controlling the inventory and store security on the shift
Protect company assets at all times by following asset control policies
Advise Store Manager of any personnel situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance; Report all accidents, maintenance issues and customer incidents to Store Manager immediately and complete proper paperwork and communicate through log book
Stay familiar with Company Policy Manual, bulletins, memos and other publications and communicate appropriate information
Ensure all communications with customers, suppliers, vendors, co-workers, etc. is professional and appropriate
Communicate store results to employees and celebrate store successes with the team
Ensure store merchandise is properly stocked on shelves and in coolers
Understand sales per labor hour and observe shift operating hours at all times; Follow the work schedule as posted, unless a change is deemed necessary by management; Properly post all hours worked and sign verifying all hours worked
Delegate any necessary tasks per shift and ensure proper shift change procedures are followed
Complete deposit and paperwork in timely manner
Assist Manager in meeting daily, weekly and monthly reporting requirements
Perform inventory counts on departments assigned by Manager and assisting the Manager in inventory management, including cash audits
Assist Manager in proper merchandising of the store to maximize sales and profitability
Be knowledgeable about all store promotions and employee promotions
Complete payroll and daily paperwork in the manager’s absence including the daily deposit
Assist in ensuring all equipment in store is functioning properly and is receiving proper preventative maintenance checks
Assist Manager in recruiting, onboarding and training efforts
Conduct monthly safety meeting as directed
Be knowledgeable about Balanced Scorecard structure and measures as well as the duties required to execute those measures successfully
Ensure proper operation, maintenance and profitability of the car wash, if applicable
Work an irregular schedule, including evenings and weekends; Assist in covering shifts with sometimes with short notice
Perform other duties not listed as required


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct reports; however, this position will be responsible for the unit in the Manager’s absence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Required: Equivalent to high school diploma; Strongly prefer Associate's or Bachelor's Degree

Experience:
3+ years convenience store (or retail) leadership experience as a Key Holder, Assistant Manager, or Manager.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective
communication with groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public

Skills and Abilities: Skill using various procedures and applications to clearly prescribed standard
practices which require the making of minor decisions and use of some judgment as to the method of
performance

Technology, Tools, And Other Requirements:
Computer, Microsoft Office: Outlook and Excel in particular, Cash Register, Telephone, Copy/Printer/Fax,
Hepatitis A vaccination where required, Other equipment necessary for convenience store operations
