About this job
Well-established & growing manufacturer located near Islandia, NY seeks a Purchasing Planner. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a traditional, manual procurement/materials department, and be great with spreadsheets, phone and heavy email work.
Prior experience in the metal-working (fabrication) industry required. Must have a good technical understanding of purchased items needed for a traditional metal and plastic fabricator with the ability to read blueprints and BOM’s.
Hours: Mon – Thurs 8am – 5pm & Fri 8am – 230pm (year round!)

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
•Establish and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers/vendors
•Negotiate and managing critical purchase agreements for key products
•Coordinate suppliers, cost, quality and delivery performance and payment terms
•Understand, track and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned products
•Understand and interpret procedures and practices, POs, terms and conditions and other documentation related to procurement
Requirements:
•5+ years in purchasing/planning role in the metal working field
•Familiar with technical aspects of purchased items for traditional metal fabrication including materials, hardware, finishing methods, etc.
•Ability to read blue prints and BOM’s to determine purchasing requirements
•Strong understanding of traditional and lean inventory practices such as planning to schedule as well as Kanban and JIT
•Bachelor’s Degree
•Proficient with MS Office Suite
