ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSE:

The benefits supervisor position is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of the company’s group benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plan, EAP and 401(k) plans). This position also provides excellent customer service, investigates new benefits programs, improves existing programs, and monitors benefits administration.  The role recommends benefits plan improvements and provides analytical and technical support to advance them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration. Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
  • Work closely with internal departments: Payroll, HRIS, IT, Operations and Accounting to ensure benefit plans are administered correctly and timely.
  • Recommend benefit subsidies and paid leave schedules for acquisitions by collecting and analyzing data that affects participation, cost and management of the benefit plan, including health, vacation, sick and retirement.
  • Plan, organize and supervise the Annual Enrollment process including the development of enrollment materials.  Review and monitor the process.
  • Assist in the development of company bargaining proposals for employee benefits and analyze union benefit demands. Obtain and prepare cost data for company and union proposals and final settlements.
  • Develop effective benefits communication, training, education tools and presentation materials for   benefit plans, including policy writing as needed. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Education:  College Degree Required- CEBS, PHR or CBP preferred

Experience: 3 to 5 years or relevant experience

Skills and Abilities:                

  • Knowledge of basic benefits & human resources theory and principles.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to individuals both verbally and in writing
  • Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to navigate various payroll and HR systems
