About this job

Job Overview:

You are someone who seeks to collaborate with members of the Finance, Portfolio, and Engineering teams to make impactful, data-driven decisions related to capital and expense spend, resource allocations, time-to-market, and software development lifecycle. You understand the flow of data, from where it is originally generated to where it is consumed and leveraged by those making strategic decisions. You are equally comfortable writing a complex SQL query as walking a non-technical business stakeholder through a cohort analysis. You understand that data integrity is as essential to an analysis as the conclusion itself, and you have a systematic, thorough approach to verify and monitor your processes. You see ambiguity as an opportunity to plan the right solution from the ground up.

The rest of the team is as important to you as you are to them, as such you pitch in to help others where you can while also recognizing when you need to ask your colleagues for help. Your analysis is your product, and you take pride in creating simple yet effective data that can clearly communicate the “so what?” to your audience. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Explore and research data relating to key people, finance and project & portfolio metrics.

• Proactively collaborate with finance, portfolio, product, and engineering teams across Macy’s Technology to support their data needs and refine their understanding of it (eg: identifying bottlenecks in resource staffing, uncovering opportunities to increase software development velocity, project roi, etc.).

• Make conclusions from your analysis, present your results, and advocate for proposed next steps to key decision makers.

• Utilize Macy’s PPM analytics toolset to analyze and report on key PPM metrics by creating simple and elegant data visualizations designed to communicate insights clearly.

• Document relevant technical and business metadata and project recaps.

• Act as a data custodian to monitor and improve overall data quality.

• Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

• Python/JavaScript experience considered a plus.

• Experience with data visualization tools (we use Tableau).

• Experience working in fast-paced agile environment.

• Advanced SQL experience and comfort wrangling data sets into easy-to-comprehend analysis and visualizations.

• 2+ years of experience in data analysis or statistics/math.

Communication Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.

• Proven ability to effectively partner, collaborate, and communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues in various business functions at all levels.

• Enjoy communicating insights concisely, accurately, and meaningfully to a diverse audience.

Mathematical Skills:

• Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.
