Job Title: Class B - Central Kitchen Driver

Department: Central Kitchen

 

Summary

The central kitchen driver position plays an important role in delivering our fresh food safely to our restaurants. Basic food handling, knowledge of time and temperature guidelines must be maintained in order to deliver safe, high quality food. The driver will be loading and unloading pallets from the truck using a pallet jack, driving the truck to each of the restaurants and checking in the food orders with the manager on duty.

Requirements to be a GFR Certified Driver 

Each GFR Employee that drives for the company in a company vehicle or their own personal vehicle on company business must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience (not including learners permit time)
  • Have a valid Class B Driver's License issued by the state of residence
  • Be rated as an “Excellent”, “Low Risk”, or “Medium Risk Driver” according to the criteria of the company’s Fleet Safety Program
  • Complete the Fleet Suite Defensive Driving online course
  • New drivers must complete the GFR Employee Behind The Wheel Training – Road Test with their GM
  • Complete any assigned remedial driver’s training courses
  • Review, sign, and adhere to the Garden Fresh Driving Policy
  • Follow all DOT laws

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-driving vehicle inspections of the trucks before each route
  • Assure proper functioning of all necessary components of the truck such as lights, brakes & tires
  • Fueling trucks daily and taking trucks in for scheduled periodic maintenance
  • Detailed cleaning of trucks and truck equipment
  • Load pallets with product and shrink wrap for delivery
  • Load and unload trucks with product safely using a pallet jack
  • Deliver orders to local resturants in a timely manner
  • Follow all safe driving requirements
  • Check delivery orders in with management team
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with restaurant managers during deliveries

Compliance

  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ensure the MVR score remains in good standings with Garden Fresh
  • Report any motor vehicle violations, both personal and professional to management
  • Follow all company workplace safety requirements which may consist of but not limited to pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, floor maintenance, security, chemical use, cut prevention, burn prevention & strain prevention.
  • Follow all company Food Safety Requirements and those laws required by FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act)
  • Participate in food safety and employee safety certification requirements
  • Take required meal and rest breaks as required by law

Drivers will needs to their hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, push & pull. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires an employee to be in a standing & sitting position for an extended period of time. Trunk strength should be sufficient to bend and stoop repeatedly and move objects between 20 to 50 pounds short distances.
