Job Description

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant Certified Sr assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with treatments ordered by physician as supervised by physician or registered nurse.
    Performs select clinical duties.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts.
    Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
  • Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies.
    Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
  • Relays prescription information to pharmacies as directed by the physician.
    Administers medications limited to the designated MA formulary, only as designated by the physician and after demonstrating network competency.
  • Collects, reports and documents patient data including patient's chief complaint, height, weight, head circumference, current medications, oximetry level, patient comfort level and specimens for diagnostic study.
  • Performs selected assigned clinical duties including preparing patients for examination and/or treatment, assisting the RN, LVN and /or Provider as directed, setting up exam or procedure rooms, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, maintaining the medication sample inventory, communicating with patients to relay information as directed by the provider, assisting with minor surgeries utilizing aseptic technique, application of minor dressings and splints as directed by the provider.
    Performs applicable tasks including urinary catheterization, electronic monitor observation, removal of staples and simple sutures and removal of peripheral IV catheters.
    Performs limited diagnostic testing including EKG, phlebotomy and laboratory testing after completing network competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to be "on-call."

  • Qualifications

    Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s): Certified Basic BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. One or more of the following: Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) . Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Healthcare Association . Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Association for Health Professionals . Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) . Certified Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) .
  • Education:

  • HS or Equivalent High school diploma or equivalent is required upon date of hire or job transfer date. Diploma or certificate verifying graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the ABHES is preferred and One (1) year experience in a related direct patient care position is required upon date of hire or job transfer date.
