We are fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and offer a full-range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services. Colleton Medical Center is offering a Residency Program in Operating Room Nursing! The StaRN Perioperative Nurse Specialty Program is a unique educational opportunity to meet a critical need for Perioperative Surgical Nurses.
It is innovatively designed to provide intense post graduate training for newly licensed and experienced nurses interested in working in the OR setting. The OR Residency Program will begin in July 2018.
The program is comprised of a combination of didactic training, hands-on skills labs, on line education through the AORN Periop 101 Course, hands-on clinical training, and clinical preceptorship at the sponsoring facility. The program will last for approximately 23 weeks (could possibly go longer depending on individual progress).
The first eleven (11) weeks includes a combination of didactic education, online learning, and hands-on clinical training in the Hospital Operating Room/Surgical Suite.
The schedule for the first 11 weeks is typically Monday - Friday, with 40 hours work weeks (8 hour days).
The first 11 weeks may require travel to an offsite location.
The remaining twelve (12) weeks is spent at Colleton Medical Center working with an experienced clinical preceptor.
The schedule for the last 12 weeks is typically three (3) 12 hour shifts at the hospital. Learners will be Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified by the American Heart Association during the program. Upon successful completion of the program the students will be placed in a Surgical Services Registered Nurse role at Colleton Medical Center! The participating nurse will make a two-year commitment to work at the sponsor hospital.
The RN Learner will be obligated to repay a pro-rated portion of the educational costs should the learner break that commitment. Requirements of the Program: * Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing * Current/Active South Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the state upon starting the program * If Registered Nurse with experience - Hospital Med/Surg experience is preferred * Current certification as an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider * Customer service abilities, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment * Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs * Attendance is imperative throughout the StaRN Training Program.
