Allied Universal is currently hiring a Corporate Investigator to oversee investigations for a client that is a leading provider of programmable technology. The Corporate Investigator will be based in San Jose, CA and u nder general supervision the Investigator will conduct sensitive internal investigations of alleged or suspected violations of corporate policy and/or criminal/civil law based on facts, testimony and evidence.

Working independently will occur when planning and conducting routine work assignments, but will be provided assistance and guidance on assignments that involve unfamiliar issues or unusual investigative techniques. Maintaining a relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies is ideal in order to achieve maximum results that support corporate interests or efforts. Work is reviewed by management for appropriate investigative techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Process Server or Civil Process Server is responsible for presenting legal documents to people who are part of a court proceedings; it requires them to be formally informed of the actions. This person includes delivering papers to witnesses, defendants, and other parties whose participation or input has been deemed necessary by the courts, be it a local, municipal or federal. His/her authority in serving these legal files does not extend to property seizures or issuing arrest warrants and only limited to civil disputes.

Process Servers in the justice sector was initially intended as a messenger system to inform individuals of their constitutional right to due process of the law by giving them a notification that states issue that involves them as individually. Their main task is to “serve” or deliver legal documents to persons involved in a court case. Process Servers will also have to deliver actual evidence that they served those legal papers. They are by law required to serve papers in the correct format as laid out by their state and laws differ from state to state.

The main duty of a process server is to deliver court case-related documents by hand to anyone required to testify in court or defendants. Once the documents get delivered, a notarized affidavit of service or a proof of service is then delivered back to whomever that requested the service, which could be a legal firm or plaintiff.

  • Serve court processes and orders, such as subpoenas and summonses
  • Receive papers to be served from attorney, court clerk, or magistrate
  • Use state, county, and city records, telephone directories, public utility records, to locate persons to be served and deliver document
  • Record place and time of delivery
  • May deliver documents between courts and attorneys and general messages
  • Deliver summonses
  • Track down defendants
  • Know a defendant’s schedule.
Compensation for this position is based upon a fee amount paid to the Process Server for each successful service of documents.

Physical and Mental Functions:
  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs, ramps
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public view includes eye coordination
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
Qualifications/Requirements:

Qualified applicants for the Process Server position will meet the minimum requirements, as described below:

  • Must have a process server license
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Have a valid driver's License
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • As a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all required License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Remain flexible to ever changing environments; adapt well to different situations
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard;
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
