Solution Engineer III

Responsibilities:

Provides expert-level consultation for the design and development of enterprise-wide data and information architecture for EDW/BI. Implements the data management strategy. Directs and designs the configuration of data. Defines data architecture standards. Participates in the global definition of information architecture principles, policies, and the application of industry best practices. Performs vendor evaluations and recommends implementation of data architecture tools. Facilitates and formally documents business requirements and strategic objectives. Works with functional business partners to ensure appropriate terminology is applied to metadata. Works with business architects to identify, define and document business processes. Provides senior level guidance to all aspects of the solution delivery cycle. Responsible for tollgate assessment and review. Ensures continual maintenance of high quality, timely and standardized data. Participates in the development and implementation of the data governance and master data management plan. Ensures designs meet all regulatory, industry, compliance and industry best practice procedures. Consults project teams on data architecture policies and best practice procedures. Leads and develops a diverse, global team for future growth within the department and organization.

ARCHITECTURE: Facilitates, delivers, advocates for and supports all aspects of the EDW, GMI & MDM programs within the global application landscape. Owns and designs future state business processes, conceptual to physical data models, and path to execution from current state to "as-is" assessments. Participates in and holds design review authority as a member of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) review board during business initiative tollgate and solution project deliverables. Resolves complex systems landscape integration and design challenges within Application Development and Business Architecture. Working with Data Architects, provides guidance in the design and governance review for select development initiatives, middleware projects, and aligned tools. Working with the Data Warehouse team, implements and evangelizes the metadata management, design, and delivery strategy. Leads, develops, and provides input to data usage designs in enterprise data integration efforts (ETL/SOA/Middleware) and in the creation of enterprise data mappings. Creates, maintains, identifies gaps, and monitors the Data Architecture framework for stability, awareness, source to target mapping, and potential application development integration & design failure.

DEVELOPMENT: Works with the Data Warehouse, BI team and Database Services Group (DBSG) to design high performing data models and reporting solutions. Creates conceptual and logical data models using industry standard modeling tools. Facilitates the transformation from logical to physical design and implementation. Working with Data Architects, provides guidance in the design of complex modeling patterns and use of established tool kits. Designs and supports the implementation of business and Systems key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards, including collaborative and portal delivery solutions. Supports MDM plan and direction toward a single version of truth.

COMPLIANCE: Facilitates the automation, implementation, and integration of Data Architecture within the solution delivery life cycle. Follows all Information Architecture policies, principles, and standards. Partners with, and generates evidence for, the Distributed Change Management Project Manager during compliance and security management reviews. Adheres to established team SLAs for design and program governance. Shows a strong desire to establish standards of best practice. Participates in the creation and maintenance of data architecture governance and standards documentation.

LEADERSHIP: Provides instruction, training, and expert guidance to staff members on all aspects of existing and new Data Architecture techniques, best practice strategies, and technologies. Leads, facilitates, and/or consults the review of project team deliverables for key transformational projects in the enterprises such as enterprise data warehouse, operation data store, data marts, and MDM initiatives. Using effective communication and presentation skills, influences business decisions with technical opportunities and risk management. Exhibits a high energy, strategic thinking, results oriented, and collaborative approach with highly tuned listening and communication skills. Shows a strong ability to work successfully in a matrix management organization. Exemplifies a business, technology, and professional growth driven open door policy. Conducts performance appraisals, interviews, and discipline/documentation as needed.

Requirements:
  • 7 – 10 years of systems and technical architecture analysis, design, implementation, and support of manual and automated database systems and technical architectures
  • 5 - 7 years, or equivalent retails systems experience, as a Solution Engineer.
  • Has successfully designed and implemented large-scale data warehouse and business intelligence self service solutions
  • Has the ability to communicate and formally document all aspects of the job requirements
  • Expert knowledge facilitating and hands-on experience in data modeling and design, data flow diagramming, data warehousing and business intelligence, application and analytical reporting tools and techniques, service oriented data delivery, and global master data management programs
  • Experienced in playing a leadership and mentoring role in enterprise-wide data quality, business data stewardship, and data modeling project assignments
  • Knowledge of industry standard middleware, ETL, master data hub, and service oriented architecture, design and delivery solutions
  • A deep understanding of the data modeling is a plus.
  • Exhibits a high energy, strategic thinking, results oriented, global collaborative approach with highly tuned listening and communication skills
  • General understanding of common development languages and frameworks within the Systems development toolset
  • Business analysis, process modeling, and a strong domain knowledge of a global retail business a plus
  • Knowledge of designing Master data domain in EDW for customer is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applying Data Science and finding insights is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Big Data eco-system is a plus.
  • Hands on experience of building/facilitating end to end EDW/BI solution is a plus.
  • Masters Degree or equivalent job experience
  • Experience managing onsite and offshore resources
