Performance Engineer (SE2)

Our Vision for this Role

We are looking for a senior Performance Engineer to play a multi-faceted role, Solution Engineer 2(Performance Engineer) will review application designs, code and lead tuning activities for a variety of new and existing systems used by our business. As a Performance Engineer, the role will also provide technical expertise to the organization, and have technical ownership of identifying and fixing Performance bottlenecks with critical distributed business applications built with multiple technologies. This individual will be responsible for solving highly technical and complex performance problems on multiple projects; consulting on estimates and design for Enterprise level high complexity tasks; writing, reviewing and approving System Documentation for high complexity solutions and providing consultative support to internal staff.

The Skills that will Make You Successful

Major Duties/ Responsibilities

Authors sizing and detailed estimates for complex new project requests. Maintains estimate artifacts for Performance Engineering throughout the project lifecycle.

Partners with BA's/Business to create/validate NFR's to meet business needs for complex and large scale systems

Partners with the Solution Engineering team on the creation of the scalable design that addresses the high level nonfunctional business requirements. Participates in Design Reviews for applicable projects and provides subject matter expertise in a given domain.

Authors Performance Engineering Strategy for complex applications that identifies potential performance risks and defines approaches to mitigate the risk in the later phases of the project.

Author detailed workloads for complex applications to understand how it is or will be used in production and leverage this information to assess and mitigate risks

Partner with extended project teams to identify Performance test data needs and create utilities/scripts to setup required data to simulate production user behavior for a complex/Enterprise applications

Builds or reviews scripts to simulate user behaviors or batch executions. Execute required Performance tests to simulate identified scenarios for complex and enterprise applications

Performs triage for basic to medium complexity performance issues and partner with required teams/vendors to address to performance issues. Escalates more complex issues to the appropriate level.

Partners and Provides guidance to an extended project team. Assists and advises project teams in the tuning, monitoring in Non-prod/prod and support of technical solutions on Performance related issues.

Consults on design approaches to solving visible and complex Performance problems. Provides technical subject matter expertise and insight related to the business applications in a given domain.

Ensures compliance with Performance, Availability, Recoverability and Supportability standards and policies and provides Monitoring recommendations for tasks of medium to high level of complexity.

Actively participates in new PE technology, vendor package and tool road mapping, evaluation and introduction.

Actively participates in defining and enforcing the source control standards for Performance Scripts and other PE artifacts.

Actively participates in evaluations of 3rd party engagement need and in SOW creation and review process.

Provides input into Performance Engineering best practice methodologies and standards. Defines standards for specific processes and/or components

May mentor one or more junior members of the team

Special projects as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge

Expert knowledge of the software development lifecycle. Previous experience in the design, build, test and implementation phase of medium to highly complex systems projects.

Solid functional understanding of the business processes supported in a given domain's business applications.

Extensive experience interpreting functional and nonfunctional needs and writing or editing performance engineering strategy and test plans for new systems, systems changes or system enhancements.

Experience in performance engineering of distributed software systems and solutions. Specific packaged application and technology expertise in alignment with specific domains.

Experience in Ambiguity reviews of NFR’s, Review architecture & design and participate in capacity planning exercises

Experience participating in design and code reviews to ensure Performance is designed and built in to the application

Master in various functional testing and performance engineering concepts and one of the leading performance testing tools (Silk Performer, LoadRunner etc.). Solid experience in Network Emulation and multiple scripting languages.

Experience in leading Performance tuning exercises, Create monitoring guides, review and contribute to operational strategy

Assessing production readiness, Help forecast future infrastructure needs (Capacity Plans), Participate/lead post production performance tuning activities

Experience in analyzing, diagnosing, debugging and resolving performance issues using application or system metrics and tools. Expertise in using APM tools like AppDynamics, DynaTrace. Expertise in workload modeling and log analysis.

Technology design experience which includes Performance, Security, Availability, as well as Operations, Monitoring and Support.

Strong knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and PCI policies and controls.

Strong problem solving, analytical, consulting, leading and mentoring skills

Exceptional interpersonal skills and written communication skills to frequently interact with all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and within cross functional project teams than span multiple time-zones.

Familiar with Agile and DevOps concepts and tools

Good verbal and written technical communication skills

Ability to understand the big picture and the short term perspectives of specific situations

Ability to influence others to achieve results

Ability to alter direction easily to accommodate changing priorities.

Minimum Experience

8 years in IT, specifically in the technical design, development and implementation or support of business systems.

Minimum Formal Education

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
