Principal Duties and Responsibilities The Solution Engineer II will provide solution expertise and have technical ownership of a subset of applications or programs in the Payroll domain. The Solution Engineer II will work closely with the functional resources to ensure that applications are fulfilling TJX's business requirements. The Solution Engineer II will be responsible for sizing, scoping and estimating project requests. The Solution Engineer II will be assigned to approved projects where they will be responsible for the definition and documentation of the technical architecture and solution design for the project scope. In addition, the Solution Engineer II will be responsible for ensuring the extended project team understands the technical solution. The Solution Engineer II will work collaboratively with peers from other functional domains on complex cross function projects.
  • Creates sizing and estimates for new project requests. Maintains estimate documents for approved projects as they move through the Solution Delivery Process (SDP) phase gates.
  • Partners with the Solution Delivery team on solution approaches to large and complex project requests. This activity may include performing proof of concepts.
  • Partners with Enterprise Architecture on the creation of Conceptual Architecture and Full Architecture documents for assigned projects.
  • Authors Technical Designs (TDs) that define how a functional design will be technically enabled for assigned projects.
  • Provides solution oversight to the extended project team during the build/test and implementation phases of assigned projects.
  • Obtains Estimate and Design reviews from other team members and may perform similar reviews for peers; also responsible for mentoring less senior staff members with estimate and design reviews.
  • Provides technical viewpoints during key interactions with external vendors including the generation of RFPs, vendor selections, vendor roadmap discussions and other key processes; may act as the lead technical contact with one of more external vendors.
  • Builds strong relationships with the Enterprise Architecture and Solution Delivery teams to understand business challenges and collaborate on application and technical roadmaps.
  • Provide strategic technical insight with respect to Payroll systems and shares expertise on integration requirements for cross functional initiatives.
  • May provide application guidance to the production support team to resolve support issues.
  • Expected to mentor one or more junior team members.
Required Skills
  • 8-12 years overall experience; 5+ with Payroll applications
  • Extensive experience interpreting functional needs and writing or editing solution designs for new systems, systems changes or system enhancements.
  • Can quickly learn the functionality of packaged and custom applications and complex systems.
  • Detailed understanding of the architecture associated with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) Payroll module.
  • Technical expertise with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) Payroll module.
  • Solid functional understanding of Payroll business processes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and written communication skills to frequently interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and within cross functional project teams that span multiple time-zones.
  • Ability to understand the big picture and the short term perspectives of specific situations.
  • Ability to influence others to achieve results.
  • Capable of leading, organizing and prioritizing IT Initiatives
  • Strong Communication and inter-personal skills a must

  • Experience working with System integrators leveraging a Global Workforce
  • Experience working in a controlled/validated environment (Sarbanes Oxley)
  • Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes
  • Experience working on all aspects of a project life cycle
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and or Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced degree and applicable certifications a plus.
Desired Experience
  • Developing on following platforms & tools is desired – Unix/Linux scripting (e.g. bash/ksh), SQL, PL/SQL, Pro
    *C
  • Setting coding standards and engineering best practices (e.g. error handling, logging, common function libraries etc.)
