You will be part of a community hospital where your contributions are appreciated and your voice is heard – where work force diversity is encouraged and personal growth is supported RN Endoscopy: Under the direction of the supervisor, manager, and director, provides high quality, cost-effective nursing care, meeting the medical, psycho/social, spiritual, emotional and educational needs of patients.
Performs related assessments, planning, procedures, treatments, evaluations and updates of patient plan of care that assures and maintains high quality care for all assigned patients.
Provides nursing care consistent with established nursing policies, protocols, and professional standards, and acts as a patient and family advocate to assure appropriate provision of patient care and to protect patient rights.
Delivers effective sedation under the direct supervision of a credentialed provider.
Performs thorough preoperative assessment, integrating age-specific factors as applicable, PACU assessment knowledge and psychosocial needs of patient.
Reviews patient chart, physician orders, documented informed consent, lab work, History and Physical and preoperative nurse's assessment.
Demonstrates the ability to prepare for all types of surgical procedures, including endoscopy procedures and ensuring PACU readiness.
Appropriately selects and opens sterile supplies and instruments.
Ensures room and equipment is ready for surgery.
Safely and effectively performs Day Surgery/Recovery/Endoscopy procedures and treatments, maintaining sterile technique related to operative sedation with the provider. Administers pre-op medications as ordered; communicates and coordinates allergies, concerns or other information to physicians, staff, and other departments as appropriate.
Demonstrates appropriate airway management, vital signs, O2 saturation and EKG monitoring.
Provides effective report when handing off patient care.
Monitors vital signs, consciousness, O2 saturation, ECG, ETCO2; assists patient as appropriate to facilitate efficient sedation for the procedure.
Administers medications under the direct supervision of the provider.
Working knowledge of all levels of sedation.
Effectively communicates patient safety needs to the provider and endoscopy team at all times while monitoring the patient.
Correctly documents all care and outcomes of care and treatment provided in medical record.
Receives and follows through with physician orders.
Provides a thorough and organized report to team members regarding patient status.
Documents charges appropriately.
Consistently communicates with materials management nurse to ensure ordering of special supply needs for the department .
Demonstrates an awareness of and competence in ensuring patient safety, including medical/healthcare error reporting, interdisciplinary collaborative team approach to patient care planning, and medication safety.
Safely positions the head of patient.
Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia and latex allergies. Serves as an advocate for patient safety and patient rights Required Job Qualifications include: * Current Idaho licensure as an RN or RN compact license required.
* Current certification as a BLS required.
Current ACLS Healthcare Provide or obtain within 6 months of employment.
PALS preferred but not required.
* Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
* 1-2 years of general nursing experience in acute care setting preferred.
* Minimum six months experience in perioperative setting required.
* Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
* Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
* Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
* Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to manage multiple priorities, effective problem resolution skills, ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels in the organization including patients, families, physicians, supervisors, directors and other department representatives.
Moderate sedation competencies under the supervision of a credentialed physician. Ability to research, educate and train other staff to the RN - Endoscopy Anesthesia role
