*AEROTEK IS HIRING A MATERIALS/RETAIL BUYER FOR A WELL-ESTABLISHED RECYCLING PLANT IN GASTONIA, NC*

Job Duties:

  • Candidate will work at the "Drop Off Shed" which is an outdoor receiving area, greeting customers and helping them get their materials weighed, dropped off, and paid for their delivery
  • Assist and direct customers to proper location to unload materials.
  • Inbound materials come to the yard in trash bins, boxes, drums, barrels, different types of packaging from businesses, home owners, large manufactures, etc.
  • Will have to unload and sort inbound materials learning the different types of commodities and grades (over 70 types) and how they are each priced.
  • Weigh nonferrous material and input transaction into "in-house" system
  • Oversee loading of trailers/containers as to content, weight and quality.
  • Responsible for following all legal requirements on purchasing nonferrous materials. These requirements include but are not limited to: check ID, take picture of seller, record vehicle information, etc.
  • Scan drivers licenses and vehicle tags into hand held database.
  • Interact with employees on other scales in order to verify/restrict duplication of purchases.
  • Quote nonferrous prices within a range supplied by management and/or verify correct pricing.
  • Ensure metals that are purchased are correct and properly classified.
  • Print nonferrous tickets for customers to receive payment for materials sold
  • Operate small equipment such as a forklift when hired on perm
  • Will be required to lift 25-50 pounds throughout the day

Job Duties of General Laborer:

  • *Will spend 2 months doing this during training*
  • Sort through recyclable items that have been dropped off categorizing them according to grade/type
  • Process them, separate them into the correct area/bins, load categorized materials into a compacting machine, shrink wrap or tie the material together in bales, clean out any items that do not belong and make sure the bales look ready to be shipped out
  • General labor duties may also include sweeping, shoveling and general clean-up of any area and/or equipment

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of general labor or customer service experience in a similar outdoor environment
  • Ability to work standing or walking for up to 12 hours/day
  • Ability to interact with a diverse customer base
  • Basic computer skills, either with an inventory system, POS system, or something similar
  • Will work hand-in-hand with the General Laborers training for the first 2 months. CANNOT be unwilling to get dirty and work hands-on in the materials. This is part of the training process to teach them all of the different types of grades and materials
  • Want someone that has some type of Customer Service background as well, and is business-minded

Job Details:

  • Environment: This is a recycling center *Candidates will work OUTSIDE all day, every day* Must be someone who feels comfortable working in the elements, and in a scrap yard/recycling yard environment
  • Shift: 1st, 7am-4pm, Monday-Friday; will typically rotate doing Saturday work from 7am-1230pm
  • Duration: 6 month contract to hire
  • Pay: $14-$17 depending on experience
