It's an amazing time to join us as a Bakery Lead!! We added a new facility and are currently expanding our operations. Were famous for our Breads & Toasts. Yes...our famous garlic bread that tastes so so so so good and melts in your mouth!! We are looking for a high energy, hands on Bakery Lead (department leaders) who has experience within a bakery processing plant, or a facility that manufactures food grade products.

We are looking for Bakery Leads who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. These are long-term stable opportunities offering room for advancement. Complete benefits package is included.

Shift operations hours are

1st shift - 4:00am - 12:30pm

2nd shift - 10:00am - 6:30pm

3rd shift - 6:00pm - 2:30am

Reports to: Bakery Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

The Department Lead position is responsible for supervising the processing areas and employees.  This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. In addition this position will plan, organize and recommend strategies in ensuring that the product is developed successfully, in accordance with all specifications.

Additionally, the Department Lead is accountable for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner. The Department Lead must be self-sufficient in all areas of the production process, and is fully capable of performing each position in the department to ensure proper training of employees in all processing operations and equipment start-up procedures.

The Department Lead is to understand daily bakery operations, having a firm grasp of the equipment and equipment’s function to ensure proper flow. This employee is sufficient in all processing documentation and the accuracy of same, and provides training to all new employees. This individual works with the Bakery Supervisor providing feedback on issues/potential issues and coordinates accuracy of production against the schedule, capable of making key decisions with minimal if any supervisory support.

Operational Requirements:

  • Provides support to the Shift Bakery Supervisor managing a total of 4 processing lines (Lines 1, 2, 3, 4).
  • Verify the completion and accuracy of all department documentation; verify employees required to complete documentation are properly training and monitored consistently throughout the shift.
  • Develop strategy to execute daily production commitments which requires the ability of critical thinking. Provide daily direction to team members based on relevant information and daily production goals. Address operational issues in a timely manner and communicate results to Shift Operations Supervisor.
  • Maintain open communication with management to ensure that schedule is obtainable. Work as a team and support the other Department Leads as needed.
  • Ensure clear communication and inform Leads and Supervisors from other shifts and departments of matters that may linger (unresolved) or interfere with their operations.
  • Per the daily production schedule, ensures employees are using correct ingredients and packaging materials and any other required items are present on the floor and used correctly. Verifies print dates and information on the outer side of cases are accurate and in accordance with the production schedule.
  • Monitors condition and efficiency of equipment; is mechanically inclined and able to perform minor troubleshooting and maintenance such as clearing out jams and reset, in addition weight control, proper recording of waste.
  • Coordinates with the QA department in quality and grading specs.
  • Oversees daily clean up and enforce housekeeping.
  • The Department Lead reports directly to the Shift Operations Supervisor; however any team member of Management may request any and additional miscellaneous tasks to be executed upon request.

Training & Development Requirements:

  • Daily tracking of employee attendance and correctly assigning employees to work stations based on production needs and demands. Ensuring proper rotation of employees to meet production goals and ensure ergonomic safety is in place. Relieve employees for paid and unpaid breaks and restroom breaks.
  • Inform Supervision of employees failing to meet performance expectations or any insubordinate behavior, or employees intentionally or unintentionally violating any company policies, procedures, rules or regulations of any kind.
  • Verify daily GMP compliance of all department team members and enforce company food safety and defense policies; AIB, SQF, FDA, HACCP, QACQP, GFSI, OSHA, FSMA, etc. (to not be an all inclusive list).
  • Address their team’s training gaps by working through the Shift Operations Supervisor. Enforce and execute proper cross-training to prevent gaps.
  • Use emotional intelligence to properly address employee issues and/or concerns.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience in a lead role
  • Mechanical aptitude to operate manufacturing equipment.
  • Communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual; fluent in another language other than English strongly desired.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The Department Lead must also be a “mentor” able to teach and train new hires on the demands of the bakery processing areas and be able to fill in at a moment’s notice pending a call in.
  • The employee is responsible for communicating any difficulties in employee development and training so that the Shift Operations Supervisor can work with the Lead to develop a performance improvement plan (PIP) in attempt to turn around the failing behavior, attendance, performance, or code of conduct. Desired result is to ensure full communication to create a welcoming environment and retain talent for the overall development of the organization.
  • The Department Lead is accountable for shift operations in their respective area and capable of modifying batching sheets as needed to meet consumer demands.
  • Ensuring all completed documentation is completed accurately and within a timely manner. Must report ANY and ALL discrepancies or findings of inaccurate or incorrect documentation immediately to the Shift Operations Supervisor or “need to know” party.
  • The Department Lead can pick out issues at a glance and address them quickly without impacting throughput.

  • Communicates effectively in speaking, writing, and in listening. Ability to speak the English language is required.
  • Keeps employees informed as to company/shift plans and progress.
  • Maintains a calm and pleasant demeanor when handling employee issues, concerns, and requests.
  • Planning is required to effectively manage shift operations.
  • Requires both technical knowledge and administrative and daily interaction with peer supervisors, and other officers of the company.
  • Proactive mind-set and flexibility are important as well as the ability to work under just-in-time pressures.
  • Develop respective reports to think “Outside the Box” pending catastrophic failure.
