Reports to: Operations Manager

GENERAL PURPOSE:
 
The Safety Champion is responsible for providing environmental safety & health services in an SSB manufacturing environment. The Safety Champion supports effort to reduce safety incidents in the local plant. He/she will track, remediate risks to ensure injury prevention, illness and property damage prevention as well as OSHA/EPA/DOT regulatory compliance. The Safety Champion is responsible for tactical application in the factory of all company Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs.
 
Consistently and independently performs assignments that are not always standardized or prescribed. Exhibits deep expertise in a variety of work area(s) to support the safety requirements of a continuous flow manufacturing process to meet production and quality standards.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Coordinates Safety training/orientation of factory employees and ensures training is current and meets regulatory requirements.
 
 
In coordination with the Operations Manager and the HR Business partner, actively works to support a plant safety culture.
 
 
Performs inspections and helps with incident investigations, conducts safety audits, assists in the preparation of reports and interacts with Corporate EHS, regulatory agencies, consultants and vendors.
 
 
Administers and maintains documents for all EHS policies, written programs, and training programs
 
 
Administers safety projects and Safety Incentive Programs.
 
 
Maintains critical OSHA records and statistics, including the OSHA 300 Log, Total Case Incident Rates, DART Rates, and Accident Investigation documents. Provides accurate and timely reports to Corporate EHS.
 
 
Facilitates EHS Committee and ensure minutes are being taken and projects being completed.
 
 
Monitors risk management activities necessary to ensure the company maintains a safe work environment for employees and that they are in compliance with federal, state and/or local requirements.
 
 
Monitors customer relations; develop RCA/Implement Corrective Actions/Escalate.
 
 
Monitors the continual improvement of Safety effort for the site to drive increasing Safety performance with the customer.
 
 
Participates and support SSB corporate Safety initiatives.
 
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
Associates Degree in a related field or equivalent and relevant work experience.
 
 
Knowledge of federal and state safety and health regulations and laws by OSHA and corresponding state and local agencies.
 
 
2 -5 years related experience on shop floor or in a safety related position.
 
 
5+ Years' experience in Safety and Risk programs.
 
 
Lean Manufacturing experience - green belt a plus.
 
 
OSHA 30 Certificate Preferred.
 
 
Experience teaching safety courses, first aid, OSHA courses preferred
 
 
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and work well independently or on a team.
 
 
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
 
 
Systems knowledge (MS Office, Outlook).
 
 
Proven time management and organizational skills.
 
 
Work involves physical demands typically found in a manufacturing environment, such as but not limited to: prolonged standing, bending, lifting and/or moving materials.
 
 
Work is active in nature with frequent walking of manufacturing plant, warehouse and distribution areas.
 
 
High degree of risk management in terms of Safety around large and complex machinery. In automated production lines, large, heavy (up to 200lbs.) manufacturing machinery continuously in operation.
 
 
Maintain appropriate PPE for the plant
 
 
Occasional travel, Up to 10% travel
