State Income Tax Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

TJX is seeking a Tax Manager who will work in a Team environment to help effectively manage the Company’s state and local municipality compliance function. The candidate will co-lead a team of six tax professionals and work with business partners and other cross-functional teams to carry-out their responsibilities. This position reports to the Manager of Corporate State Income Tax.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the tax compliance process, including first review of multi-state income tax returns and related work-papers and schedules. Ensure returns are well documented and audit ready.
  • Manage the preparation and review of the multi-state quarterly estimate and extension process to ensure timely completion and adequate payments to avoid penalties.
  • Coordinate the completion of and analyze the proper computation of the state taxable income. Work with the Tax Department’s Federal Income Tax Manager to understand the Company’s book/tax differences and evaluate their impact to state tax.
  • Review, analyze and confirm the accuracy of the state tax depreciation schedules.
  • Review and analyze the completion of the multi-entity state apportionment schedules and verify compliance with current state laws and regulations.
  • Monitor changes in state tax law and analyze impact to Company.
  • Coach and develop staff to maximize job satisfaction and professional growth.
  • Conduct formal employee performance reviews and provide continuous performance feedback during the year.
  • Identify opportunities to improve current processes and procedures as they relate to the current state tax function.
  • Opportunity to collaborate in state tax planning and special projects.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting or related equivalent preferred
  • Master’s in Taxation (MST) – or currently enrolled in qualified program
EXPERIENCE
  • At least 6 years of directly related corporate income tax experience in a multijurisdictional environment, with a minimum of 3 years in a tax reviewer position.
  • Review experience should encompass familiarity with the majority of the U.S. states.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific experience and education listed above.
  • Strong knowledge and application of accounting principles.
OTHER
  • Strong analytical, communication, project, management and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage both internal and external resources effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft WORD and Excel.
  • Experience with OneSource, Oracle and HFM a plus.
