Inbound Logistics Manager

As the Inbound Logistics Manager, you are responsible for leading and managing the inbound transportation logistics and consolidation operations. The primary accountabilities are providing direction and development to a team of Transportation Planners and manage the overall operational effectiveness relative to transportation service and costs. The individual has direct accountability for managing on-time performance of vendor pick-ups and delivery through adherence to the planning guidelines, managing carrier performance, and collaborating with Merchandise Logistics on vendor performance. They will manage 3rd party consolidation operations ensuring freight is received, processed, and shipped out in a timely, measurable manner, along with managing carrier pools at each consolidation operation.

You will monitor the planning order volume to ensure optimal scheduling of the team and resources to meet workload needs – including providing support to other teams through partnership with the other managers. You will have departmental and operational budgetary responsibility over their areas. They will be required to identify and develop operational and financial solutions through measurements and analytics to improve performance and optimize profitability. You're expected to partner with the Import and Outbound operations identifying opportunities to collaborate on building dedicated networks and backhaul opportunities.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Manages staff and develops them for future growth within the department and organization. Coaches staff on performance and professional development. Motivates staff to achieve efficiency and productivity through goals and objectives. Conducts performance appraisals, interviews and discipline/documentation as needed.
  • Supports team, ensuring they have the appropriate direction, tools and resources to achieve optimal daily performance of freight and consolidation movements
  • Develops and manages Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the department. Uses KPIs, dashboards, reporting to identify and translate the connections and core issues to operational performance and financial controls. Analyzes operational opportunities and develops recommendations for actionable solutions utilizing critical problem solving, data analysis and modeling.
  • Reviews daily, weekly and monthly operational reports for effective carrier management and productivity. Monitors and reports on carrier service and compliance.
  • Identify new and innovative ideas, generate - solutions, turning them into effective working plans
  • Evaluates routing solutions, performs analytics on alternative solutions continuously seeking areas to improve efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Ensures high-priority freight and special high-volume merchandise buys are executed flawlessly, have a sense of urgency, and thorough visibility and communication
  • Manages multiple consolidation operations. Responsibly for the efficient execution of product receipt, sortation, cross-dock, and shipping levels of service. Sets standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Manages volume projections, maintains required trailer pools, and solicits additional equipment from carriers in order to make seasonal adjustments as needed.
  • Manages the continuous moves process for the TJX domestic divisions. Ensures on-site carrier contractors maintain a high level of service and lowest loaded to empty miles ratio for regional fleets. Ensures that all continuous move tours are properly managed within TMS, driving a high level of driver utilization, along with accurate and timely freight payment.
  • Works closely with Contract management to perform monthly volume forecasting and year-end closings related to planning, consolidation, cross-docking and continuous moves operations.
  • Reviews daily, weekly and monthly operational reports for effective carrier management and productivity. Monitors and reports on carrier service and EDI compliance.
  • Interacts with Inbound and Outbound Corporate Transportation Management both internally and in the field for problem solving and system data maintenance. Develops processes and procedures for best practices related to dedicated opportunities, back-hauls, continuous moves, consolidation and cross-dock operations.
  • Collaborates closely and maintains consistent communication with Merchandise Logistics, Distribution, Carriers, Vendors, and Consolidators.
  • Works closely with the IT Department on the testing and implementation of applications, upgrades, patches and EDI information related to TMS, tools and data management.
  • Special projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ year’s experience in transportation or applicable logistics experience
    2+ years management experience
