Job Description-Solution Engineer II Integration Services

Scope & Organizational Positioning:

The Solution Engineer II designs and guides the implementation of large and medium scale enterprise middleware projects by delivering solution architectures, High Level designs, and reference documentation. This role maintains expert level knowledge in several components of the IBM stack including: WebSphere and Data power.

Key Responsibilities:

In this critical role, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of accomplishments in the following areas:
  • Integration Standards and Practices
  • Participate and contribute to the definition of an enterprise integration strategy for TJX, including definition of standards, guidelines and best practices for application integrations.
  • Provide oversight in standards adherence through reviews of integration designs.
  • Function as steward of our migration toward TJX’s approved architectural directions, ensuring that project teams understand and utilize concepts of reuse and services.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and best-practices within the enterprise integration environments in order to introduce innovation and ensure cost-effectiveness of TJX’s standards and strategies.
  • Recommend changes to EAI, SOA, API strategies to improve the value of integration to TJX.
  • Actively collaborate and align with the various architecture disciplines
  • Integration Design, Architecture & Collaboration
  • Author’s high level integration designs from functional requirements that adhere to the existing integration standards and patterns.
  • Authors sizing and detailed estimates for all integration project requests. Participates in the creation of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models for large and complex projects. Maintains estimate artifacts for the solution designs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure the alignment of Integration solutions with the architecture guide lines
  • Lead or actively participate in architecture workgroups representing the integration group
  • Influence and guide external Service Providers and internal staff in implementation of the strategy, providing guidance and review of Service Provider’s architecture plans and designs to ensure methodology, best practices and standards are followed and to ensure overall quality of the integration solution.
  • Foster collaboration in discussing and vetting out viable enterprise solutions based on multiple technology solutions.
  • Work with delivery teams that are building out or enhancing applications that will make use of our integration architecture, to provide mentorship, collaborate on the use of tools and methodology, and to share expertise.
  • Should be able to guide development team members on integration solution implementation

This role partners effectively with Integration Architecture, Delivery, Landscape Management, Middleware Infrastructure, Enterprise Architecture and other groups as needed.

Key Skills and Experience:
  • Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8 plus years of experience in architecture, design and implementation of complex integration solutions.
  • Architecture and Design
  • Proficient in architecture modeling, integration, practices, governance and reference patterns.
  • Experience with TOGAF, Zachman, FEAF, COBIT, ITIL or Gartner Framework a plus.
  • In depth understanding of enterprise integration standards and demonstrate ability to advocate and enforce their use.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hybrid integration standards and patterns
  • Knowledge and understanding of the business implications of introducing (or displacing) solutions.
  • IBM Middleware Products
  • Solid experience designing integration solutions using API Management solutions, IBM middleware stack (IBM Integration Bus, MQ File Transfer Edition (MQ FTE), Data Power, WebSphere Registry and Repository (WSRR), WebSphere Business Manager (BPM), WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and ITCAM).
  • Hands on experience with above products a plus.
  • Knowledge of API / Web Service security standards and guidelines.
  • Delivering Integration solutions
  • Knowledge and understanding of conceptual architectures. (API, SaaS based integrations, Web, Client-server, Real-time Integration, SOA and SCA/SDO).
  • Hands on experience with EJB, JAX-WS, JAX-RS, SOAP, XML, JAXB, and REST.
  • Ability to see IT patterns and can apply industry and internal patterns in solution delivery.
  • Demonstrate understanding of all elements required to architect, design, build, test, operate and maintain complex, global systems utilizing enterprise infrastructure and applications.
  • Ability to balance technical; financial; architectural; business and IS objectives.
  • Broad-based knowledge of the IT industry and trends in the integration space.
