Summer Day Camp Leader

 

Job Summary: The Summer Day Camp Leader will lead groups of children between the ages of 5-12 years in organized outdoor adventure activities with Heavenly's Discovery Day Camp. Outdoor activities include gondola sightseeing, nature hikes, high ropes challenge courses, tubing, crafts, games, and a variety of other activities in a high alpine setting.  The Camp Leader will also train, supervise, and mentor camp counselors in all facets of the summer camp program.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Engaging and entertaining a group of 6 or more children in an outdoor adventure setting
  • Responsible for the overall safety of camp participants and all resort guests
  • Ability to lead an active group at a high elevation in multiple venues: such as hiking, tubing, rock climbing, and high ropes challenge courses, for up to 8 hours/day
  • Leading scenic educational hikes and teaching environmental conservancy
  • Ability to train, supervise, and mentor camp counselors on all aspects of the program 
  • Strong, positive communication with parents, staff, supervisors and multiple departments within the resort
  • Collaborating with the team in planning and facilitating dynamic activities & presenting new curriculum ideas
  • Committing to a safe, active, and exciting Tahoe experience for children using encouragement, creativity, and positive leadership  

     

    Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent - required
  • College Coursework in Education or Recreation – preferred
  • Previous professional experience working with school aged children - required
  • 2+ years working in a leadership role and supervising a team of staff - preferred
  • Prior professional experience in a children's outdoor recreation program - preferred
  • Ability to participate in all scheduled camp activities - required
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, or willing to obtain upon hire - preferred
  • Excellent communication skills per email, phone and in person - required
  • A strong desire to be outdoors - required
  • Ability to strongly communicate in English, verbally and written – required
  • Candidates must pass a criminal background check - required

     

    Please note:  Upon interview, candidates must demonstrate an engaging activity idea or game to be conducted with a group of school aged children.
