About the team The Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences encompasses three Schools – the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing, the School of Engineering and the Oceans Graduate School. Past graduates include Rhodes Scholars, Fulbright Scholars, Eureka Prize winners, CEOs and seven of the most influential engineers in Engineering Australia's Top 100 list. The Faculty is home to a former Scientist of the Year and award-winning inventors, and part of the UWA Oceans Institute and the state of the art Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre. The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department within the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing has an established and dedicated team of teaching and research staff providing broad-based undergraduate programs with solid foundations across computing disciplines, and developing graduates with high level expertise in computer programming. The department offers innovative Masters Programs in Software Engineering, Data Science and IT, attracting an increasing numbers of students. These are all complemented by a wide range of multi-disciplinary research activities with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence: computer vision, data mining and optimisation. About the opportunity The role will involve collaboration with researchers across different schools within the Faculty of EMS to build a strong, nationally recognised research programme that complements existing research groups. There'll be an expectation to undertake independent and collaborative research within the general area of Machine Learning and Data Science to generate research output of high impact and national recognition. As a passionate advocate for teaching excellence, the role is responsible for developing and delivering world-class and innovative undergraduate and Masters Curricula with a focus on Machine Learning and Data Science as well as contributing to the Department, School, Faculty and University community via service activities.
