Registers patients for emergency room treatment and admits patients to the hospital as outlined in departmental
procedures.
Verifies insurance information through review of automated eligibility products, website or contacting the
insurance company.
Calls Employer on all Workers' Compensation claims when possible.
Place charts in appropriate bin upon completion of registration for distribution and pick up by other hospital
and physician office personnel.
Processes observation patients in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Counts cash drawer at beginning of each shift and completes cash drawer log in accordance with stipulated policy.
Relieves other areas as assigned by the Admissions/Communications Supervisor, adhering to that specific
position's policies and procedures.
Prints updated ED Registration log off of Meditech System.
Processes inpatient admissions as necessary or requested.
Processes orders for patients through the order management function of the Meditech System.
Do admission logging and monthly report for admitting. As requested, total number and type of visits on the
ED log daily.
Ensure ED log is accurate and complete daily. All discharges updated and sign off on completion.
Complete and record monthly totals.
Complete all necessary information and verify for accuracy the data concerning Medicare Secondary
Payers for Medicare patients.
Create no delay in patient screening by the triage nurse to obtain financial data from the patient.
Registration information regarding insurance or payment methods to be collected only after patient has received
appropriate medical screening of condition.
Ensure Medical Screening designation (MSC) is updated in EDR Tracker before registration.
Assure appropriate procedures are followed regarding iatrics checks for non-covered charges by Medicare.
Get Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) signed by patient for any specified non-covered tests.
Assure proper documents signed for self-administered drugs that may not be covered by Medicare.
Assist as necessary with questions regarding patient accounts/amounts due on accounts during hours/days
when Business Office is closed.
Scans all necessary documents into the Meditech Scanning desktop with a high degree of accuracy in all steps of
this work-flow process.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent -Required
Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
