About this job

DoveLewis is a non-profit, AAHA-accredited, VECCS-Certified Level 1 teaching hospital with a two-story, 22,000 square foot facility fully equipped for endoscopy, laparoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT scan, vacuum assisted wound closure, and long-term ventilator support. Our hospital includes specialty support in critical care, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, and radiology. As a teaching hospital with a stray and wildlife program, we offer unique learning opportunities in addition to a significant (more than 16,000 patients/year) and diverse case load. Our medical services and unique community programs are known around the world thanks to the passion and expertise of all of our employees. We are currently seeking Veterinarian Intern candidates for June 2018 - June 2019.

(Direct applicants cannot be concurrently seeking intern spots through the VIRMP.)

During the internship program, interns have primary case responsibility while working in our ER. While in our ICU, they work alongside a staff doctor or criticalist while managing their cases. Interns typically work a 4-day work week and are on call one day a week. Staff veterinarians are scheduled alongside of the interns and a critical care specialist overlaps the majority of daytime shifts. The interns experience one-week rotations in surgery, radiology, cardiology, and internal medicine. Primary surgical experience is gained mostly through procedures performed in the ER including: laceration repairs, feline unblocking, enucleation, tail/toe amputations, etc. Additional surgery experience is gained throughout the year while doing on-call shifts and assisting the boarded surgeons. Interns will have didactic rounds weekly. This is a combination of journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds, grand rounds, and specialty case rounds.

With three boarded critical care specialists, there is close supervision of both the ER and the ICU. There is a criticalist available for consultations 6 days per week. DoveLewis also has a board certified radiologist, two board certified surgeons, a board certified internist, and cardiologist. DoveLewis is currently recruiting for a staff cardiologist to add to our team of specialists.

Equipment and service capabilities include ultrasound, telemetry, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, laparoscopy, oxygen therapy, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition therapy, and blood banking. Imaging capabilities include digital radiography, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography. Radiographs are reviewed and ultrasounds are performed 5 days a week on-site by a veterinary radiologist. Diagnostic ultrasound is available on an emergency basis on the weekends. In-house laboratory capabilities include CBC, chemistry profile, blood typing, blood gas analysis, and more.

DoveLewis is actively involved in providing continuing education to the veterinary community. In addition to our CE seminars, our in-house, web based educational initiative, atdove.org, provides video lectures, short discussions, and written content for veterinarians, technicians, and support staff.

Requirements:

Graduate of a College of Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary licensure in Oregon.

Veterinary degree from an AVMA accredited school.

Compensation Details:

Salary: $35,000.00 + benefits (medical, dental, short-term, and long-term disability, and supplemental vision)
